Me and a mate hop into a new Space Engineers Survival Playthrough. With our limited combined experience we make many mistakes along the way but have a lot of fun; managing to get a basic base set up in the first part of my new space engineers survival gameplay series

You fly with a sort of reckless abandon that I admire. I always fly my mining ships like I borrowed them from my dad. My favorite anti crashing tip that I like to do is adding a camera just in front of your connector facing down . Helps with the landing process immensely. Every ship I fly with a connector gets one. I also play with the wolves on it keeps you on your toes till you get an interior turret up. Looking forward to the next episode Cheers.👍👍

You probably crash a lot less ships than I have even in my short experience with the game flying how I do lol. And that camera near the connector is something I hadn't even thought of and sounds like it would make things so much simpler

The wolves will, in fact, often have parts on them. But you have to switch the cargo view to the "individual" view (the astronaut helmet). The same is true for freight boxes, barrels, and spiders/saberoids. You two are a fun watch. I recommend the "Build Info" mod. It can find air leaks, but also shows what your hotbar settings are when in a control seat, and will show the cargo fill level on your ship (as if it were your backpack). If not, then the ExcavOS script is a good option, which will allow the in cockpit screens to show your cargo level and contents, power used for flight, and a few other handy things. It does require custom text on the cockpit "custom data" option. Very handy stuff.

Yeah, figured out the wolves now a few people have mentioned it to me so thankyou. And while the build info mod seemed a bit overly complicated for me for now; that script sounds very useful
@interstellarsnow

i’d actually argue that the script is more complicated to set up than build info, as with build info you just need to add the mod but excavos, being a script needs more setup@@HumanNuggets

I had only seen the old style one with the text menus that seemed a bit clunky; version 3 does look a lot more streamlined and definitely would make setting some things up a lot easier

Like a nitwit I forgot why I was commenting in the first place. So number 2. The wolves have stuff you just have to switch to the little helmet inventory at the top of the right inventory menu screen like you do if you want to switch the left hand side player inventory back and forth between ship and player. They do throw some useful stuff early on.

pro tip - if you don't wanna hassle with the gyro to flip up right. you can use leverage by using un-built batteries. they still hold weight when un-built, so you can use a bunch on a makeshift "arm" and force a flip.... ps, the swearing is fine

wind turbines - 13 grids above the base floor, 1 grid down a cube in the 4 directions, a sideways wind turbine on each cube... this is the META for power, next tower 13 grids away, I always prioritize power and batteries then cargo, refinery and assembler in that order

Ye gods yes, about the hand mining. :D I also like to rush the first drill block. From the landing pod/miner, I go to a static base drill, first on a single piston, then expanding it from there with rebuilds including rotors or whatever. FYI from another series, I learned the cheapest way to convert the pod to a mining ship is to move the passenger seat and put a drill through the front. You might need one or more conveyor blocks to make the connection. Put a remote control block on, sit in the passenger seat, and fly via remote locally (cheaper than any cockpit). No antenna required. The pod comes with all the components you need to initially make it flyable (tear down antenna, beacon, unconnected bottom H2 thruster, etc to build gyro and remote). It's been a while, but I think you may need to grind down one of the atmo thrusters at first, meaning your ship will not have thrust in all 4 horizontal directions. Everything after that just makes the deathtrap safer to fly (more thrusters, cargo block, etc). XD
@HumanNuggets
@HumanNuggets 5 ай бұрын
Yeah; I probably would have build a small drill platform near straight away if it weren't for wanting specific thing to try and go faster to make contnt out of it as well

here is a tip i picked up recently, if u craft interior plates, u can place unwelded interior blocks instead of light armour and its far cheaper in terms of iron

@@HumanNuggets fair enough, i kept forgetting they existed, even with the dlc. there is a ton of other wacky tricks in space engineers as well. u can get free ice and cobalt by constantly spawning respawn pods, and drills don't take collision damage from blocks or voxels so u can crash as much as u want as long as its drill first! also u keep opening the inventory of the wolves and nothing comes up, u need to change the display to the inventory only, not attached inventories, the wolves always have components in them and it can help build ur supply.
