Amazing album. It was insane hearing this at 5am and I didn't want it to end at all. We both were in awe at the music that was in this album, it was just insanity.
Really wish I could upload these reactions more

Timing for this is funny considering Metro Boomin's album dropping tonight and the cover being inspired by Wish You Were Here.

So dudes. This album is about "absence." The guy that founded Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, ended up with major mental health issues from too much LSD mostly, maybe other factors as well. He was a star, but only appeared on their first one (and maybe a half of the second) albums. This is like their 8th or 10th album, but Syd's spirit always guided their music. This album is mostly about Syd. He wasn't dead, he just wasn't "there" anymore, in many ways. This entire album is a tribute to him. And the craziest part.... while they were recording this, he randomly walked into the studio. They hadn't seen him in years. They didn't recognize him, he was a shell of himself, he was brushing his teeth randomly just standing around. This is sooooo deep on so many levels. And the spirit of the music reflects this. You don't create this level of a masterpiece without having some profound feelings.

Thanks for leaving this cool comment. We found out more about this album after listening and it truly made us appreciate the album so much more. Especially the self-titled track that is endearing and sad to listen to knowing what had happened to Syd and how it affected the band so deeply. Learning he went to the studio during the process of the album blew our minds as well.

People love to romanticise the syd had mental health issues because of lsd... its simply not true. Syd was always schizophrenic, was diagnosed early. The group of people he hung out with did tons of drugs including lsd which wouldn't help anyone with syds condition... but to claim his mental illness was drug induced is not true in the slightest. The entire album is not a tribute to him. The first song is and a few moments in 1 other song. Which is technically the same song. Verified many times even by roger on jre. THEY did recognise him. Only Roger did not. You really gone off in your imagination.

@@lloydymk2013 I respect your viewpoint on this, but I refer to what David, Roger, and Nick have said about Syd (not sure if Rick ever really spoke of him). Of course mental illness was the root cause. And it's why his LSD use affected some much, turned him into a shell of himself. I was not at all saying that the LSD caused the mental illness, but it certainly amplified it.

1) Don’t pay attention to negative comments. This is how ALL of us first learned about The Floyd. It’s your journey-keep talking. 2) album cover: “someone getting ‘burned’ as in a record deal.” Needless to say Roger was over it with the recording industry. 3) Have a Cigar. Actually sung by Roy Harper who happened to be recording two studios down. Both Roger and Dave were struggling with the vocal, Roy was hanging around and asked if HE could take a crack at it. History made. BTW: Led Zepplin has a song called “Hats of to Roy Harper.” Yup. Same dude. Roger has since said he would have got it in the end. I think Roger is talking sh*t. 4) really only SOYCD is explicitly about Syd but Roger has since said Syd was on his mind when they were writing Wish You Were Here. It’s about loss, of course. They loved that man and missed him. 5) WTTM and Cigar are really about the poisonous effect of the recording industry on your musical and personal integrity (see cover photo). It’s still amazing, to this day I think, that the magnum opus that is SOYCD was written about, and for, one man. Just one. His loss crushed them and yet inspired some of the most sublime music… okay. I’ll shut up now.

Recently went to one of the members, their bassist and one of the main writers for Pink Floyd’s concert and it was incredible! I recommend reading or watching a video on the meaning of this album and highly recommended Dark Side of the Moon as a full listen as well. There’s a reason it was on the best selling album charts for 741 weeks!

Pink Floyd were such geniuses that many people didn't even realize that they got their bandmate & friend they're singing about Syd Barrett's name in the song as an acronym!! As follows: (S)hine on (Y)ou crazy (D)iamond. With Pink Floyd you've stumbled into a bottomless rabbit hole!! As a few of your commenters have said you need to check out anything from their 94 pulse concert! That way you can see what they look like live and you're going to want a time machine after you see a few songs from that concert!! Also if you want to see what they looked like when they were your guys age check out Pink Floyd Echoes live at Pompeii 1972!! Yes another long song but fairly well done as usual! And yes I'm being sarcastic and making a giant understatement when I say fairly well done!!

This is an awesome, genuine reaction. I’ve been a Floyd fan for decades. I remember the first time I ever heard them though. For me it was the movie “The Wall”. I was confused too.

If you find these tracks frightening I dare not imagine your reaction to the track that I'm proposing to you. Pink Floyd - One Of These Days (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited). This is a live version track. The 1994 Pink Floyd Pulse concert is considered one of the greatest concerts of all time, even though it is 28 years old. It was seen by 5.5 million people in 68 cities around the world. You absolutely must see at least one song from this concert.

Yes only three ways to listen to Pink Floyd. In order of awesomeness: 3) headphones. 2) really loud on speakers and without doubt a distant first: live (and they were really loud live)

fun reaction guys, but if you know the context of the album it'll make the album better. Wish You Were Here is about the industry and about Pink Floyd's former Frontman, Singer, and Guitarist, Syd Barrett. (S)hine on, (Y)ou Crazy (D)iamond.

You're being too critical. Honestly. The fact that two young dudes are listening to this and being blown away by it? When I first listened to it, I was in Junior High. Maybe 13. I didn't know what it all meant either then. 35 years later, I'm still listening and I'm still getting more out of it with every listen. Their reaction was way better than your comment.
