This still brings a tear to my eye. I grew up in the early 70's and I always thought of this song when my brother and I played together. 50 odd years later I'm blessed that my big brother and I are still so very close.

R.I.P. Rolf Harris. This is my all-time favourite song [and started out as a music hall song as well as a children`s song] and I remember this song as a Xmas No.1 hit in 1969 [my favourite year in the 1960`s, and I was 2 years old then] and I`d like to dedicate this song to my family who were around then and also to the people who were around in both world wars including my late mother`s father Joseph Hymas, who served in both world wars and he had TB in the first world war. I`m definitely miss him now and I love this song in honour of Rolf Harris.

Look- I grew up with Rolf Harris’s Cartoon Club. He was amazing, I don’t think about later when it was revealed who really was. He was great at the time.

I remember this song when I was a small kid. I actually liked it so did my kid brother. Who would've thought he was actually a paedophile.

Can a non-nonce please record this brilliant song? It was written before Rolf "asks 'em young.....can you tell what it is yet?" Harris was born so it's not his!

It's a song my mam sang to me in the 70s with my brother but she had no idea what the song could of meant or what type of guy he turned into!! 🤢😈😠
@afm622 жыл бұрын
He didn’t write the song. It’s from the very early 1900s and the war referred to is the Boer War. It’s based on fact.

It's so sad but true. horses and canons not a good mix but there was a time they were used.. this always reminds me of the Charge of The Light Brigade poem.. the Kings Hussars on horse back.
