I've been bush now for 60 years and whenever I've seen frillies they tend to be on upright trees when first sunning in the morning or if they are males being territorial or maybe looking for a meal. A lot of the time they are on logs/branches that are nearly level to the ground, I believe they like that as it takes no effort to be there and they can rest and digest food easily. This is only an opinion I'm no expert but if and when I set up an enclosure I will definitely offer upright and level logs

Nice job and skills on the burnt tree trunks, didn’t think you were gonna go that far in making them that natural, wow. I think to up that enclosure to the next level, you should add some smaller pieces of natural brown coloured wood, maybe some cork bark on the floor as a hide, or some branches laid diagonally in the enclosure. I think that would make the burnt trunks more subtle and contrast well, as in nature not every tree in the area is burnt black. You can also add some small ornamental grasses to the floor to pull that background in for some 3D effect.

Beautiful! If they are mostly arboreal, I would put in more trees, maybe even one that is all but laying flat (horizontal). I feel like they would like one like that at the top and maybe the middle. If they do like to run around on the floor, then of course they need that space. Your enclosures are really becoming THE thing! I hope to see your little mousey friends soon. I hope your wife and baby are doing well, I hope you ALL are getting a bit more sleep, though it's not too likely. You are still speaking coherently, so that's something. I saw where Coop added little crannies for his animals only to find they LOVED them!

Thanks Amanda. I think if I had more space in the enclosure I’d put more branches in but I think if I do it’ll just be too much of an effort for Billy to move around. One day I’d love to build him a way bigger enclosure too. Still getting used to each other and trying to find a routine. We’ll get there! There’s a Hopping noise update lined up soon.

What a dedication! 😀 Awesome stuff. Background pictures and then matching everything to it brings such a depth to these enclosures. Jaw dropping. One question though. Haven't you noticed that some animal tried to get into the background image like it would ran out to forest or something? When I've put my ball python into an enclosure with simple natural images sticked to side walls, it looked like it wanted to run into them. It learned in few days but still, would be good to know others experience. BP sees badly so it may make a difference compared to lizards/monitors too I guess.

Thanks Martin! I have had one experience where a tristis tried to jump into the image when I initially put them in. They worked it out within a few minutes that they couldn’t get into the image though.

Not much as of the moment. I used to have some tiny ones on the side but have since covered them up with the background. I don’t think they did much anyway. I’m looking to either route some vents in the front and top or add in some PC fans to pull and suck air in and out. Kinda can’t show the aluminium as it’s all in place but it’s a aluminium composite board. Basically two thin sheets that sand which another product between them. Pretty sure you can get the same stuff at Bunnings.

Your frilly has a really bubbly head doesn’t look anything like my ones but I do give them natural sunlight and calcium

Yeah he’s always had an odd shaped head. He does have uvb and calcium as well. I think it may just be the genetic line to be honest as the breeder had a lot that were similar. Either way he’s a good lizard.

@@lyallsreptiles101 as long as the quality is there it shouldn’t be an issue. I wouldn’t be making them up with the aluminium board however. They’d be a nightmare to ship. I plan to make them in the same format as the hopping mouse enclosure I’ve done so they can be put in poster tubes.

The enclosure itself was easy and follows most diy principles. The branches and the backgrounds took more work but it was worth while.

You can get them made up at most sign printing places if they know what they are doing. Images have to be of pretty decent quality so bare that in mind. From memory it was around $900 for these two.
