Watch a lot of van builds videos and the retractable shower door seemed like a must in van shower, light weight and self cleaning. But I always thought the shower area was lost space and wondered how you could utilize it for storage and still use the retractable shower door. You just answered that question. You are a genius! Loved both designs. I wish there was a van builder like you in my country. You are brilliant. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I love that secret shower idea, very clever. Showers take up an annoying space to use ratio. I’m concerned about dampness and mildew though. Leaving the cupboards open may be inconvenient or annoying for whatever reason. Maybe put a fan and vent in that runs automatically for however long after the doors shut to absolutely ensure the cubicle is dry. You’re probably already 10 steps ahead of my ideas 😊
@HumbleRoad4 жыл бұрын
If you shower in a van you should wipe it down afterwards. But yes, I will include an exhaust fan to assist.

It's a pleasure to watch George continue to create options after his collaborative conversations with these van owners. I think this attribute alone is a golden-value-added bonus for anyone considering a van build. That said, there's always at least one breakthrough design element that appears in each new van build that I get excited about! There's one I recognize in these two new floor plans I can't help but admire. In the Ram 3500 plan it's the dual purpose pantry-storage-shower foot print. I'm reminded of the best tiny house designers, or those micro apartment designs I've seen from Japan where living spaces are modular, and commonly dual use. This is a brilliant use of space in a van, and I can't wait to see how George and his son design and execute the concept.

My first thought about the desk was to hinge it to the kitchen side and store the drawer section on top of the toilet but it might be too heavy to lift and too much hassle. I would add a slide out table underneath the desktop for when your sitting in the passenger chair. Can´t wait to see these builds, especially the unique hidden shower design 🤩
@FreedomStrider4 жыл бұрын
Lovely base designs 😃 - For the desk, instead of flipping it up, why not swivel it 90 degrees (preferably inward towards the toilet block). That way, if there is stuff onto the desk that is still in use, you wouldn't have to move everything off the desk to get out. Can't wait to see how they both turn out.
@HumbleRoad4 жыл бұрын
Your swivel idea is spot on! I might also incorporate a hinge up and down behind the passenger seat. Options!

Another way to incorporate a Desk in the van is to use a design like Winnebago used for it's forward bunk that used a scissor mechanism to lift the bed over the driver and passenger for stowage while driving. Those van's have the space to use that design for a desk that raises and lowers. That way you can leave your desk cluttered with your desk stuff.
@HumbleRoad4 жыл бұрын
A perceptive idea, but the sliding door entrance is the lowest point in the van for entry and exit. My client is on the taller side.
@jameslamb73004 жыл бұрын
@@HumbleRoadGeorge, I think having a desk is a great idea! As I was watching your design unfold it came to me that people like messy desks and utilizing the space above the driver would allow people to hide there messy desks... (Grin) The location you have chosen is a great use of space! Imagine a "U" shaped seating area that would back up to the passenger seats with a desk chair folding out of the couch with a desk stored above the drivers area... And a dining table that rose from the floor that could retract to bed height utilizing a rear kitchen design like HR1?!?! (Ha! Vans are great spaces)

Hey George, I'd like to point out a real life concern with the ProMaster build. Being that the Promaster is front wheel drive it is best to keep as much weight(fridge/freezer/water tanks) as far forward as possible. When traveling up hill a lot of weight can be transferred off the drive wheels. If you check out Trent & Allie's channel you'll see it happened to them quite a few times. They actually got stuck in the middle of a hill because the front tires would just spin when any torque was applied.

Hey George you know what you should do for the table, you should have it on a linear motion that can lock in place whereever you want so you can move the table top of the desk towards the front seat (for sharing purposes obviosly) and then once the table top is moved towards the front passenger seat it can easily be lifted up attached by some sort of pivoting hinges and stored away, if you understand what I mean, this will make it easy to store the tabletop and also will make it nicer for sharing the table if needed :)

Thank you for your video. Right now I'm just kind of winging it in Sienna minivan, but I hope to upgrade to one of the smaller Promaster's soon and build it out. I was kind of lamenting because I would like a shower in it, but due to space constraints I figured I was just going to have to settle for standing in a bucket with shower curtain wrapped around me and a flex hose shower nozzle hanging from a wire hang coat hanger 😄. But the idea of those removable cabinets recessed into the shower stall is brilliant!
