In the 1930's Schwinn gave up on their sales for the Henderson Motor cycles because every gas powered vehicle saw sales drop from the depression . They focused on the bicycles but WW2 hurt them as well , but they did produce their pre-War Schwinn/Henderson DX based on a retro look for their Motor cycle days. That's why the fake gas tank look was used for that Motor Bike look that kids would like, they also built a " BikeLock" feature in the front forks and neck that locked the steering much like the modern Motor cycles do. These bike weren't cheap . But the 1960's saw the Tariffs lifted on foreign bike from Britain and Schwinn started to sell them through private stores to reduce the costs for Schwinn only retail shops that didn't have the sales to stay alive. In the Movie Back To The Future we see Dr.Brown buy a really nice Cruiser Schwinn while their is also a Schwinn shop on the main st among the common stores you would see in 1955.

Why do so many folks struggle with basic economics? If you sell to a pawn shop you will get less than retail because its cash now, no advertising, auction fees or waiting months to find the right collector. When the pawn shop employee tells you they're taking a risk, they are! The item might sit for weeks, months or years until the right person comes in and each month (or quarter) the shop is obligated to pay taxes on their inventory. You as a seller make a choice; unload the item quick and simple or wait. If you have something that might do well at auction please keep in mind there is a 20 - 30% auction fee that you'll pay before the auction house pays you from the sell.
