To me it makes a lot of sense. Not only because it's probably a bit more time efficient to only mix each color once, but mostly because it more closely resembles how most artists would probably approach painting eg. adding a shadow to each of the grapes, then adding the highlight to each one etc.

I prefer figural paintings over landscapes, and landscapes over still life's, but I have to say that these companion paintings, post-restoration, are really stunning. Those apples look like what was probably commonly available before the development of modern hybrids and the use of spraying for pests and diseases - a bit of a historical record. While you always hear about restoration in regard to the painting and the client, I always think about the long-ago artist, and how pleased they would be, if they could know, that their painting was valued and respected and maintained in fine displayable condition long into the future. I've been lucky to have the experience that these clients are having in this video, and I can confirm what a wonderful feeling it is to see a painting you own that has been brought back to its full glory, released from years of being obscured and damaged by time and mishandling.
