Happens every time two or more stations set up together to do portable oops. Band pass filters are a must if you want to operate at the same time. Otherwise, let one station operate then the other. Great video, Dave, thanks. Steve, k7ofg.

We used to operate two Collin’s radios on the same band (CW/SSB) on field day with no problems. An Icom, Yaesu, or Kenwood receiver would block or freak out, but the Collin’s S-line or LWM2 would work just great.

What about band filters on each radio cw vs ssb.
@ke8mattj8 күн бұрын
Dang, this is a very relevant question for me since I want to also talk ssb on 40m while having a 24/7 js8call station on 40m. My only solution was to turn off js8call when I'm doing ssb. Thank you fir answering this, Dave.

Thank you. Did not know what I did not know. Learned something new.

So it's all about phase noise? No mention of receiver desense? Front end filter quality differences? Blowing out the front end of your second receiver?

Some finely tuned Band pass filters should help. But another question is how far apart (verticially and horizontally) the 2 same band antennas are? This can also determine how much will they interact with each other. It is possible to do, the Big Rig Contest stations do this all the time. There are likely some in depth NCJ articles specifically on this topic.

Do it with a Yaesu 991A and you will blow the ipo diode right out of the receiver. Ask me how I know. That was just by having an antenna hooked up while another transceiver was being used. Now I leave the 991A unhooked while operating another radio.

I had same issues with my mobile used as a base and GMRS handheld, noticed handheld would interfere. Installed ferrite beads on the base antenna in and at the feed line on the antenna and laptop power which is next to the base. I kept on adding ferrite beads till interference went away.

You can also reduce the phase noise between two radios if you use something like an Elecraft K4 or Flex 6000/8000 radio that has an external time base input for 10 MHz. You then need something like a Symmetricom GPS locked time and frequency standard. If you look around a bit you can find a used time and frequency standard that will give you 10^-13 accuracy.
@stargazer76445 күн бұрын
Why do you think that reduces the phase noise? You're just locking the internal oscillator to a reference.

I'm imagining what a duplexer for 40 meters would look like!

What he could do that would be very simple would be to use remote internet receivers for the SSB reception.. I am not sure if the 2 transmitters transmitting at the same time might mix and cause some strange harmonic product.. A SSB voice signal should have little impact on the FT-8 narrow operation as long as you have the antennas far enough apart and at opposing polarities..

Question! Do two 1/4 wave hamsticks, in a dipole configuration, actually make a 1/2 wave diapole antenna? Bob KJ5IKB

Great video, this is indeed not widely know by hams. I wish the manufacturers would do better to reduce phase noise. Robert K5TPC

Two bands close together will make a radio go nuts. Like 20 and 17 meters within 40 feet of each other.

im jealous of your oldschool IBM keyboard i really want to get one of those and convert it to usb or something
@ChrisH-x5x8 күн бұрын
I have four of them, they are lovely to type on, and I would highly recommend getting one.. I had to use ATEN UC-100KMa as the keyboards draw too much current for USB and this device seems to buffer it and allow them to work.

You should have mentioned this is a great way to blow out the front end of the radio. I'm surprised he hasn't already done so.
