When trying to break those stuck blades loose, depress the closed blade first. The spring should give, and allow the blade to move just a bit. That should make it easier to pull it open.

So nice to see and hear a regular guy restore something. I am over these almost robotic guys that clearly copy each other, turns me off! Thanks for the human touch.

Maybe add Baking Soda to Vinegar for 1st step, then the oil to pull them apart.

A fairly effective alternative to evaporust is pine sol. Heard it from an older fella once. I tried it in an ultrasonic cleaner like you have.

I use it in cleaning surgical steel that needs to be sterilized. Murthy’s soap or pine-sol work well on cleaning metal.

I have a very old Schrade 3 blade pocket knife that belonged to my grandfather and he used it as his work knife- i think it was bought between 1920 and 1940- on the medallion it says Old Timer- the main and middle blades are badly worn i'd say 75% gone #3 blade was hardly used- i was going to send it back to the manufacture to get new blades but they said NO- and they would keep it and sell me a new one- so i kept the old one and told Schrade what they could do with themselves lmao- ive probably spelt the company name wrong

Hi new subscriber 👍🏻do you sharpen them to use them? I’m starting out with old pocket knives I got from friends. Can you buff the blades to shine more? I use a Dremel to clean them but it does scratch the blades so I use 1000 grit then a little polish, I’m a total amateur lol so I’m learning but it’s fun just for me. Thanks 🎄Merry Christmas 🎄
@DirtandRust
@DirtandRust 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Sub Durango I appreciate it. I'd start by getting any of the crud out out from under where the blades set...you can use canned air or maybe a pipe cleaner, then go over it with some mineral oil use a old t-shirt or something...you might find you like the look of it after a light cleaning. If not us can use a dremel and abrasive discs to polish more...then get a sharpening stone and learn how to use it (lots of vids on KZbin for that) Best of luck with your Knife!!
