The music too was created by Ray himself. Ray's talents weren't just film making. He's a polymath. He painted, edited magazines, had created the famous Bengali sleuth Feluda (Pradosh C. Mitter) in his books. His works with his sci-fi stories on Prof Shanku and the unproduced film's script Alien seems to have inspired Spielsberg to make the movie E.T. Funfact: This short film was made during the Vietnam War and is believed to have been Ray's protest against the war.

This is a recurrent theme in Ray's work. The song 'ek je chilo raja' talks about how a king is sad even when he has everything and the only way he could get happiness was if he would give up all his material possessions and get out out and breathe in some free air. This is interestingly also the core of Buddhism.

The more we are surrounded with technology and artificial things, the lesser we connect with nature. Remember those childhood days with less toys and more frnds playing carefully and using our own ideas m creativity? Now there are more toys, more frnds but on internet, we play a lot but not with our own ideas but locked up inside rooms. If he were in todays world he would have been influenced by the surrounding too and dont know, could have happened anything.

Dude... "Artistic Depth in Films" The subtextual and message oriented depth on films.... Is A COMPLETELY different "BALLGAME" of comparision. As compared to Commercial cinema.. Satyajiy Ray was an Innovator and Deep thinker for sure... But, at His TIME as well... Indian Commercial cinema was Making a TONNE of money as compared to him. Satyajit was Not about Commercial cinema.

And One thing which I "Cringe" a lot over while reading comments below OSR videos..... is the fact that Indians Tend to EXAGGERATE every single Iota of MILD OR MEDIOCRE achievement as if it is the BEST IN THE WORLD!! i would love that to Happen!!! And would cherish the commentors to Claim the "best in the world" Tag for OLD OR NEW indian filmmakers...... ONLY IF THOSE PEOPLE who are commenting have ALREADY SEEN 1000s of Hollywood and International European Japenese korean British MOVIES from the past decades..... But, its rarely is the case.... Most people out here on OSR have Minimum Exposure to OTHER COUNTRIES BEST work.. Even in Deep Philosophical thinking.... And just start Jumping like NAIVE foolish people.... with Just one small Excitement in the work of their countries artist...... I mean come on guys!!! .. It would be awesome to first actually Compare the work in your Mind!! Before saying BEST IN THE WORLD.. They dont even knpw if its BEST IN INDIA.. as North Indians dont watch south Indian movies and vice versa

That being said... There are dozens of american Filmmakers from Satyajit rays times who are Much More DEEP and SYMBOLICALLY philosophical than Satyajit Ray.... Literally dozens... One guy from our generation times... is not even that famous in America... But, he is a GEM of a Writer/Director/Actor/Music Composer/cinematographer for HIS OWN MOVIES... HIS NAME IS SHANE CARUTH.... Check out this trailer.. where he has Acted as the LEAD... AND ALSO WRITTEN AND DIRECTED THIS beautifully super deep movie!! Named "Upstream Color" kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZrPiqaolJipqKM He is the WRITER DIRECTOR MUSIC COMPOSER AND MAIN lead ACTOR...... all rolled into one...... And He is 10 times More deep and psychology Layered than satyajit Ray.

That's the brilliance of Satyajit Ray. He's been my favourite since my school days. It's not that he was the only Bengali filmmaker creating these meaningful masterpieces. But what set him apart for me was that his movies were so palatable. As a viewer, for me, before I managed to discover the historical/ Political context, I could so easily connect at a human level. This is what made me fall in love with his work at a very very young age, when I couldn't necessarily connect to the works of some other genius makers (whom I came to love and regard with age) because of my lack of any strong socio -political affiliation or understanding. I'm so happy you reacted to this.

The rich kid tries to impose his superiority (his idea of happiness) over the poor kid by showing off his materialistic possessions to feel good about himself. Thus he picks up a "fight". He tries to break him as hard as he can. However, the poor kid doesn't lose his spirit and decides to keep himself happy with everything "little" he has. In the end, the rich kid accepts his defeat with a realization that he's not content. Also, him withdrawing himself from his toys, and the tower falling is shown as a metaphor for his defeat and his inability to find joy despite having "everything". "Two" explains the duality of happiness. One that comes from possessions and the other that comes from within.

Everybody has already explained the symbolic narrative of the US-Vietnam war, which is absolutely true. But, there is another undercurrent message. Its the never ending materialistic greed of crony capitalism making you a monster vs the freedom of simple lives and being happy in whatever little you have. Satyajit Ray is the maestro, one of the gems of the Ray-Kurosawa-Felini trio promoting neorealism in movies. He is not only a director. He is the writer, a novelist, painter, cartoonist, musician and composer - and all at the same greatest level. He is an ocean that's too deep to dive and explore.

@@livelifeeat5526 Both Goopy Gayne Bagha Bayne and Hirak Rajar Deshe are great in their own right. What do you think about Goopy Bagha Phire Elo? Although the inferior of the trilogy (quite like the Spiderman trilogy, I guess!) it shows the mortality and insecurities of the characters. Goopy and Bagha were willing to help the antagonist just to get back their youth. I don't think it will be a complete arc of these two characters without the third film. Wouldn't you agree?

I have seen it for the first time , n i was waiting for Rick to speak and get what i could also feel from the film . Yes it's about who is enjoying n winning at life . Even though he is poor kid but he has got life treasures , he can feel , his toys r real , his flute , kite and arrow is real he is living life as it is while the rich is living in superficial things , n even though the rich will try to drown the voice of the poor but it's still there making music . N what's left is reality n not the artificial way of thinking I have everything but no . Specially telling this story through kids who doesn't know the worldly things makes them at equal platform but seeing how the rich r rich n aquire things but not experiences of simple joys of life . N who knows there must be a bigger msg related to class divide . It's Satyajeet ray he is nothing short of brilliance .

The best thing about this reaction was that they didn't interrupt the movie and give their opinions in the end, You can tell that they were enjoying it themselves unlike other channel where people keep interrupting in middle of things and don't enjoy rather just act that they are watching. Thank you so much, It was really like a reaction. Keep going.

Most of satyajit rays work has an undercurrent of class struggle and celebration of life among the poor (or should I say the "real" rich people). His celebration of humanity, even when faced with dismal poverty and tragedy, as showcased in Pather panchali, Ashani Sanket etc has earned him the wrath of Nargis, the mother of Sanjay Dutt, who at that time an union minister, she accused him of "selling poverty"...Little did she understood the depth and joy ingrained in his films
