Joseph Gilbert well yeah of course there are a couple of exceptions, like No Leaf Clover that only exists as a live song, and is a song where it’s live version is the official version. But for most regular studio album songs, the first time hearing it should be it’s studio version.

Metallica bassists, Cliff Burton, was the one who composed this whole instrumental. He was very very classically influenced and you can really hear it in Orion. Orion has Ben considered by most to be Cliff Burton’s greatest composition. Unfortunately, Burton died in 1986 when Metallica’s tour bus hit some black ice and the bus overturned landing on Cliff Burton. Next time you hear this instrumental just remember the genius that was Cliff Burton. Great reaction, ladies.

6:50 that blues-y breakdown in the middle of the song never gets old. you don't hear stuff like that in metal too much
@mfree802865 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed, Metallica's instrumentals tend to 'tickle the brain'. The guitar solo you pointed out around 12:28, the next section is actually Cliff doing a bass guitar solo. And if the "Master of switchups" catches you... back to the much harder stuff with 'Blackened' off the And Justice For All Album. Song's in 4/4... 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 7/4, 6/4, 2/4, 13/4, 5/8... yes, it goes through all of this *seamlessly*, AND accents on the upbeat, which is backwards from most music. It's also in 72, 192, and 128 beats per minute depending on where you are in it. Not a happy song, though, unless nuclear apocalypse is your thing.

@PotawatomiThunderNew5 жыл бұрын
That whole first minute or so of this video is amusing and kinda fun to watch. It’s like watching people exchange inside jokes that only they know. I sort of enjoy when you guys have those type of moments in your videos because it makes me think about how I am with brother and how everyone else in our family view us when we interact with each other. But anyway, it was a cool reaction and I’m glad you looked up afterward that it was indeed an instrumental. They have another instrumental you should consider called To Live Is To Die. They have 4 instrumentals in total, Orion is their second instrumental and To Live Is To Die is their third. A big reason why I’d like to see you guys react to that one is because of that song’s context. Metallica’s original bassist Cliff Burton was very progressive, and he was the one who kinda made their music sound more progressive as a whole. He was the one who introduced that progressive style to them. Without him their music might have ended up being a little less melodic and a little more straightforward. This song Orion is an excellent example of that. His influence in this song is very clear and easy to notice. Unfortunately he was killed when Metallica’s tour bus crashed after this album came out. So on their next album, they did the instrumental To Live Is To Die as a tribute to him. And his influence on the band is definitely shown in that song. I won’t lie, the first part of the song might seem to drag on a little bit too long for some people hearing it for the first time, but that doesn’t really take much away from the song’s overall enjoyment. Plus I’m kinda curious to see how you guys take the change in mood that is displayed in that song. It gives you good sense of the pain they were feeling after he died.

Go deeper into Megadeth, beauties Anyway, this is the most peaceful song I know. It might not be the calmest or the slowest, but it's more chilling than anything. By the way, you should know, that Metallica has 5 big instrumentals: 1. Anesthesia Pulling Teeth - a wonderful, short song, mostly played on a bass, composed by Cliff Burton 2. The Call Of Ktulu - a long one, just like Orion, starting with a beautiful clean riff written by Dave Mustaine (I guess you know the story), also containing a legendary bass line, played by Cliff Burton (my favourite one) 3. Orion - most known metal instrumental, also composed by Cliff Burton 5. To Live Is To Die - a beautiful piece of art, composed by Metallica after Cliff's death (they used one of his last compositions), containing one of their most famous clean riffs and whispered words, that were partially the last thing that Cliff noted down in his diary 5. Suicide & Redemption - a great, sad song from one of their newest albums, beautiful, but not as soul-touching as the rest (the only one without Cliff Burton's influence)
