Also, would you consider doing a Zoom or other platform to show things like this, and take questions from viewers? @PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
First the stepper motors should be locked. Check you setting $1=255 should be the setting to lock the stepper on the XCarve. You may be over tightening the bit. Usually a half turn to three quarter turn with the wrench is all that is needed.

Great Video. New Subscriber....How would you set the probe properly if your center/center is in a pocket? Have you ever had that problem?
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for subscribing to my channel. If you create a pocket and then want to carve in that pocket you can. Use the center point to establish your x,y position. You must be very careful with your design so that the router will not hit the edge of the pocket. That would cause you to lose steps and ruin the carve.

I'm new to the game and in the process of deciding on the software to learn. Don't want to start with a program that I will grow out of quickly. Looking at Vcarve Desktop, Fusion 360, Carveco Maker and Easel. Seems like everyone is either using Vcarve or Fusion 360. If your are going to learn one which o ne would you suggest?
@PawPawsWorkShop Жыл бұрын
The software I would learn is VCarve desktop. You will be able to design all of your projects and you will be able to adjust and alter 3D projects. You cannot creat 3D without Aspire which is expensive. You will also need a sender to send the gcode to the CNC machine. I use the Openbuilds controller which is free. I would also suggest to get Inkscape (also free). You will be able to easily improve files and convert images to svg files.

There has been many discussions on belt tension on the forum and the general thought is that they should be about 4.5 lbs when measured from the center and pulled up 1 inch. For me, my belts are 3.5 lbs and I have never had a problem. Again, it like everything else, what works for my machine may not work for yours.
@PawPawsWorkShop6 жыл бұрын

Hey Paw Paw. I tried to duplicate this project as best I could so I could compare carve times, but mine differs from yours considerably. In Easel in the top right corner you have the chosen bit displayed, next to it is a plus sign. It is there that you can add the second bit.

Thanks for the video, I'm new to X-carve and haven't done 2 stage carve yet. Is there still a possibility when changing the bit, the router can be moved ever so slightly? Can one use the last XY setting command to get around that or can homing / limit switches be use to calibrate back to original position? Thanks.

Armando Jaimes . Yes you can use last xy. Be cautious, I have been successful with this and I have also had the machine take off in its own world. Sometimes it will forget the position. Therefore I do not trust it anymore. You may have more success than I have had with using this function

Armando Jaimes. I do not use the homing switches

I noticed the Southeastern University signs. Are you from that area?

Yes, I have kids and including myself and my wife, we have attended Southeastern, LSU, Northwestern State, and Louisiana Tech and Delgado. Good mix of schools from the state.

how do you do a 2 stage carve from Vcarve to easel?
@PawPawsWorkShop5 жыл бұрын
Chris Scheele . In Vcarve you would setup tool paths for the two bits. Create the gcode and send to easel. Open each gcode file in a separate work piece. Then carve each work piece with its correct bit. Hope this helps you

Good Morning... I don’t have an X-carve but I do have a SainSmart 3018. I’m assuming that these instructions can be applied to my machine. If not, what should I be doing different. Also, I want to save this to a “flash drive” and copy it to my lap top in the garage, what kind of problems would I have? Thanks

It should be similar, I am not familiar with that machine. In Easel you can save the files to your computer using download zip. Last tab on the left side of the screen.

The intro music was way to loud compared to the rest of audio. Otherwise thanks for the video

Hi paw paw....in my opinion its bad for the xcarve to store it vertically....you are putting irregular force on components not designed that way....success or not.....its a bad idea....it would most certainly twist and bend components...and go out of square at a minimum .....thanks

I agree with you. I would never do it with my XCarve. I can only say that some do it and have had success. Keep in mind I do not have any first hand knowledge. I can only say what these people say online and on the various forums.
