That's so simple, I thought you had to change the stud layout and make everything super reinforced on floor one to support floor 2, so cool thanks for uploading

i have the house the same structure. and I wanna remove the wall between additional bed room and kidchen. is it load bearing wall? Thanks!
@gregvancom3 жыл бұрын
I can't see a wall between the kitchen and bedroom. Are you talking about another wall.
@trucchinh5633 жыл бұрын
At 0:36 the wall at middle of the house on the right side. You said it could be used as additional bedroom. My house when openning the front door the stair straight up to second floor, on the right side is living room and wall and dinning area. I wanna to remove this wall to open between living and dinning.

hi, when you're building for two stories, do you have to do any special reinforcement around the rim joists or rim boards to support that extra weight from the second story?
@gregvancom4 жыл бұрын
Some residential construction projects require blocking around areas where the floor joist wouldn't have any joist running perpendicular to it or connecting to it. Feel free to provide me with more details or email me a picture if this didn't answer your question.
@jonathanbrazeau9704 жыл бұрын
@@gregvancom no, totally understand, it seems to be the general consensus from the feedback I'm getting. Alot of people saying "squash blocks" used for point load area's under headers etc. It's weird because the APA website lists rim boards as having up to a 4500 PLF capable load (the stronger versions), but the joist manufacture I'm looking into (Nordic) lists them as having up to 8500 PLF capability. In any case, both figures are far exceeding the load of a two story housing dead loads.

Great video! I'm wondering, for interior supporting walls on second floor, are they directly connected to the walls right below on the first floor?
@gregvancom7 жыл бұрын
Not all the time and most of the time they sit on top of floor joist. Here's a link to our website that might provide you with a little more information about floor framing and how it's used to support walls above. Http://www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/engineering/index.html

gregvancom - Thanks, Greg! Your website is really helpful. Kind of strange how physics works...

Yes, Gravity is always pulling things down.
@treelife3657 жыл бұрын
gregvancom - LOL, yes pesky gravity! Well, what I meant was how load transfers from load-bearing wall through floor and into load-bearing wall under, or horizontally across floor into outside walls.

Did you find the information on our website? If you didn't, then I will be glad a video on how multilevel buildings transfer weight to the building foundation.

Question, if your roof is supported by a 2nd story wall that is not directly above the 1st floor wall, can this be done? Can you get enough strength from a header or will you need many pillars in the first floor to support the upper wall and roof?
@gregvancom4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand exactly what you're going to do. Feel free to provide me with more detailed information.

Can the plan be approved in the Caribbean?

You would need to check with the building officials, building departments or inspectors in that area.

In order to have a bedroom downstairs wouldn't you want a full bath also?
@gregvancom5 жыл бұрын
That would be helpful, but I don't think it would be necessary. I'm not familiar with any building codes that would suggest having a bathroom on the same floor as a bedroom, but at the same time have never seen a bedroom on the same floor without a bathroom. Now you're probably more confused than when you asked the original question.
