I loved this episode so much - well, except for the drama - but I couldn't say if it was John or Dalia who was driving the negativity - I think both need to rewatch this and rethink their approaches to team work. Loved all the recognizable artwork, particularly Van Gogh and Klimt (love Klimt!) and Vermeer. My favorite aspect of this episode was that you had a beginner artist and a non-artist doing the judging and their insights were so very on spot and Elli's response to the judges comments was so affirming to artists and non-artists in your audience! I do watercolors and don't consider myself and expert at all, but I'm always trying to learn more about all types of and approaches to art and I'm certainly learning a LOT from your show! Please keep doing it!

Wow - a LOT of drama in this episode! I think it is fabulous that the two paintings are so representative of two such different styles of painting - modern/urban and traditional. I think they were both VERY well done and it was hard to vote on one. I made my choice based on what I would prefer to have in my home, because honestly, I think both were equally well executed and both teams have every right to be proud of their end result - perhaps even more so Freezy, Dalia and Constantino because their process was so challenging! They are both amazing paintings, and I have to say WELL DONE! It was great to hear feedback from two different "non-artists/non-collectors." That reveals an interesting "everyman's" sense of the two works. I'm glad nobody was eliminated this round. It was hard to see Miranda go! And I loved the actual challenge that was given for this. It created an opportunity for some fabulous results!

The entire time watching, I'm trying to decide who will make a better team? A trio of relatives who know each other's personalities and fight for control of vision or a team of "strangers" who enjoy the collaborative process and "go with the flow". The latter seems to be having a lot more fun, but which one will be more creative? The hands-off vs. director management styles are interesting as well.

If you watch it back you'll see that it was Dahlia who drove John to breaking point. John wasn't negative in the beginning, but both Dahlia and Elli accused him of that. He was just quiet and stressed that's all. Then Dahlia and Dino escalated to bossing John around. I've followed this family for a couple years and there seems a pattern of ignoring, putting down, and scape goating John.

Truthfully I loved the dynamics in the father-son-daughter painting as the result was the best as well. Their interaction reminded me of a poem …. Out of respect for John ….. I’ll try to embed the poem in a reply. When you are a parent - and you have children they go thru stages…. Bottom line- you did your best as a parent. When you get older - the kids will respect you more. When they are all this age- it is hard as each one has their own ideas as perfect. I think John held his own and was very kind as a master - I vote for their painting. FYI my mom went to high school with Andy Warhol. He always say behind her. My sister has my moms yearbook with his lovely signature. My mom recently passed.

When I was 2~ my mom could do no wrong. When I was 10 “mom- whatever”; at 16 “my dad was so annoying”; at 25 “dad you were right”; at 30 “want to go to moms and dads house”; at 50 “I don’t want to lose my parents”; at 70 yrs old “I would give anything to ask mom and dad anything”. As a 60 yr old woman who raised three same age boys - one of which will need 24/7 care forever- I just lost most recently my mom and my brother. I’m alone - no more of my family left. I would give anything to talk to my mom. John you were awesome and yours kids are awesome! Great job to Elli and John. ❤️ I voted for team John.

I love this show so much, but watching the team argue right from the get-go when they were trying to come up with a concept and choose artists was stressful and made it less enjoyable. Part of that could have been cut. Then when they were painting, it was giving me a headache. And John, I'm sorry, but just because you said you don't believe it, doesn't mean it wasn't true. I think a lot of this episode could have been edited out without sacrificing content. Great job on the nod to Van Gogh! The other painting made me want to experiment with collage. I love the pop the oils provide. I wish I wasn't so intimidated to work with them.

The Girl with the Pearl Earring is my choice. I think the other painting is too busy even though there are some great areas of it. The focus of the girl with the pearl earring is standout whereas the eye moves in every direction in the liberty painting. The flag needs a more defined outline is a suggestion.

The Vermeer (pearl) painting is also a further collaboration of techniques-green screen, costuming props, collage, mediums, application methods-not just masters and styles. Though the flag with its nod to a current master is wonderfully creative, too!

@Vanessa-ie8bu6 ай бұрын
You need to re-watch it It was Dahlia who pushed John to breaking point. John was only trying to make it work.
@NaturalLuxury6 ай бұрын
He's an adult and the parent in this situation, his behaviour was petulant, his communication was extremely poor and all his actions were in contradiction to collaboration. He whined the whole time about the circumstances and tried to control his children, not allowing them to be fellow artists and adults in this situation, he treated them like they were still his little kids, it was hard to watch.
@Vanessa-ie8bu5 ай бұрын
@@NaturalLuxuryall I know is I watched Dahlia dominate him. And Dino followed suit. She even physically pushed him away. He was making great suggestions of lying the painting down (in other words trying to find a solution through compromise) but both kids rubbished the suggestion immediately. That's what I call petulant. Dahlia and Dino disrespected him many times. If I were John I would have walked, but he's an absolute hero for sticking it out.
@NaturalLuxury5 ай бұрын
@@Vanessa-ie8bu Watch the next episode dear, he openly talks about his behaviour and so do the rest of the team. His suggestion to put the painting on the floor directly conflicted with what the other two team members were doing, he knew it would make his job easier and theirs impossible, it was selfishly motivated. Also note that every single time he was called out on his actions, he gaslit everyone around him, claiming he didn't do the thing that they literally just filmed him doing. It was awful. Maybe you need to watch it again, or maybe study some human behaviour and psychology beforehand, some background knowledge here would help you out.

This was so hard to watch Dahlia and Dino be super pushy and hot headed toward their dad, and then accuse him of being negative when he wasn't. Then Elli chimed in to say he was negative too, when he wasnt. I don't know why he didn't walk from the room and leave them all to it. It takes great maturity and fortitude to persevere and make the best of that situation. John you're a legend. You were a team player, when Dahlia and Dino were not. They were selfish and bitchy. I even saw Dahlia shove you away with her arm. They didn't consider your request to lay the painting on a table, which I saw as John trying to find a resolution to the problem. I'm unfollowing Dahlia now. And Elli, you need to re-watch this and apologise to your husband.

Although I voted for painting on the left, it was hard for me to do because I did not want to reward the attitude of two of the painters on that team. I love this show, I have watched seasons 2 and 3. Like any show I watch, I do have some critiques, such as a lot of the students seem to have similar styles. But season 1, the artists differ on their styles! This made me very happy! Unfortunately, this episode is very hard to watch because it seemed very hard for the dad to work with his kids. The worst part of the show for me is when Jake tried to make a joke, but it was not funny at all. It was distasteful, disgusting, and disturbing. At 1:36:48, Jake holds up a roller and says "It is time to K¡1L some children!". Absolutely disgusting.
