In my unprofessional opinion as a creator if you want to have not just a hobby but decent job you only need to write for the market. Overwise if you do it just for yourself there is no guarantee other people would like your work = you have no value for market = you won't be able to earn money. The question is how to write for market AND be excited/thrilled about your work? To achieve such state creator needs to have good knowledge of mainstream media, what people like and don't, in what they are interested in, what they used to see in other shows/movies/series etc. With such knowledge creator can combine his own unique ideas he is thrilled about with existing trends on market, so in the end everybody is happy

Yes, when the comic book adaptation phase was booming. Especially after learning of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" screenwriter's backstory of writing it.

I think I’m missing something here. Is she suggesting that we look inside ourselves to develop characters? I certainly don’t want every character in my story to be like me. Or is she suggesting that the story that you are writing is a story that is affecting your life at this moment?
