Exactly. Lot's of people do stripes(I did an offset black stripe) and it works flawlessly. The key thing to keep in mind is you have to peel the tape when it's wet. You also want to be sure you put down enough product to maintain it's peelability. You can put as much dip down as you want. As long as the last coat is still wet, you can peel the tape after 17 coats if you wish.

Great Job, this is very helpful! I tried to 2 tone and ended up screwing up one of my colors. My one comment on this car is that would look so much better if you blacked out all the chrome with that grey, the chrome and badges and chrome around the windows clash with the paint now.

If you ran your hand across the line, you may be able to feel a difference in the texture, but it wouldn't necessarily be raise. When the dip is applied to the top, the case coat will almost re-liquefy and the two coats will fuse together.

How do the parking sensors react to being covered with the dip? I've noticed that snow or ice covering the sensors will set them off.

You can peel it off of the sensors and itll work just fine

With a "normal" number of coats of dip it has no effect. If you get it too thick it can set them off, but as Austin mentioned, if it does get too thick you can just peel the dip that is over the sensors.

I noticed you sprayed over the parking sensors. So I take it there's no issues with spraying over the senors and the sensors works normally.

You will get some of that depending on how much you focus on those areas. Typically, it's not a huge amount and it's pretty easy to go back and clean that up when you're done. You could also mask off all the areas that the dip may "blow through" before you dip so you have less clean up later. Keep in mind, that's a rather large job and will take a bit longer.

I successfully and very attractively created a gradient two tone from Plasti Dip from Flex Blue to black Blue. It came out great, I sprayed the Flex Blue first and while still wet I sprayed the Black Blue. I repeated the is in each coats and the results were perfect. I only mention this is technique we have used in our design department and have successfully found we can easily match the designs and mock-ups that we submit to our clientele. If you would like we are scheduled for a to another Plastic Dip wrap next week and we could we could record the process and send it to you when done.

Finally somthing different than just painting the whole car the same color, do some cars with diffrent colored rims than black. Change it up a bit, prob get more fans up here on KZbin. Like red rims, blue etc.

Question. Do you let the previous coats dry after ten minutes or so and then peel the tape while the final layer is still wet...or each layer gets only seconds to dry before applying the next?

Brad Rex I have found after finally using the dip, that all layers other than the last should get ten minutes of drying time. The last layer should have the bordering tape removed immediately after spraying (neat and careful, but quickly).

fonzie, can you create a health channel? i have a relatively good upper and ok legs, my problem is all in my belly, its all soft and flabby. is it my diet or just general workout? also. im gonna dip my car as soon as i buy it, does the dip get stuck in the small crevices or will it mess with pop up headlights?

Fonzie, You stressed pulling the blue tape up before the third coat dried. The previous 2 coats had already dried. Why does the wet tape for the third spray assure sharp lines for the second color ?

Are you saying you would add tint to the clear? Lots of people do this. DYC has a few videos demonstrating that. You can also shop around online and find pigments (color shift, metallic, glow in the dark) and add that to your clear coat and it will DRASTICALLY change the look of the base. Look up the "Blurple" GTR.

There's some conflicting information here (I think). Can I put tape and drape over the base color or not? At the beginning of the video, you said to use painter's tape to both set your line and use as a buffer between the tape and drape and the base color. Then, at the end of the video, you said it was fine to put tape and drape on the base color.

One thing I have noticed is the census is to spray light coat, let dry 15minutes, then spray another light coat, 15 minutes, then start adding the heavy wet coats for smoothness. However, in a two tone situation like this, it appears you applying a thin layer, then going back over with heavy wet coats instantly and therefore the tape can be pulled while its wet. So which should we do? wait 15 mins before coats on the initial layers or just give it a few moments to settle then go back over it?thanks!

So, does the thinner in the Dip reactivate lower levels, to a certain extent, thereby allowing peeling on the last coat, regardless of time between the other coats, OR do you still need to be quick enough with your coats to keep them wet from coat, to coat, to coat?

Personally, I think it would have been pretty cool to make the trim black rather than grey and then glossify the entire car. I'm sure if you get a professional graffiti artist he could probably accomplish some incredible fades and graphics for your company as well.

I dipped a car in a paint booth and even though the vent was on sucking the air down dust kept flying up from the gun and getting all over the dip and got stuck in there . anyway to prevent this. just dip it on a tarp? wet the ground?

I have been watching dyc videos , many over and over , on prepping , applying , etc , I don't have an indoor area with adequate ventilation , do you think I can dip my car outside in yard , in Georgia on hot summer day sky stands still ,no wind , but hopefully no one drive by on dirt road , think I can risk it ? You gotta put the tape and drape down first, a little above the line you are making, then put down the tape thats actually masking the line, to make it easier to remove the tape with one hand, rather than pulling away the tape and drape, then the tape. Just makes it easier to get it off before the dip drys >:)
