Here is my opinion, Everyone wants Rich Rod for the nostalgia and redemption story. Which would be a great thing to happen but I just don't see him rebuilding us and making us a contender before he retires. When he coached us we were in the Big East not a power conference not much competition and talent like we do now in the Big 12. Yes, we played Miami, Louisville, VT, Syracuse, etc. But most of our wins with Rich Rod we beat the lower level teams of the conference the best teams in the Big East we could barely beat consistently. He comes back and is coaching in one of the biggest conferences in football I don't see us hanging in with the other teams with recruiting and him coaching. Look what happened at Michigan with him. I think its time for a new era in football look how exciting and promising the basketball team is doing right now with a FIRST year coach. Bring in Kotelnicki and a new era of WVU football it is time to let go of the past and look into the future. I will say though that you can take my opinion with a grain of salt because I was not born yet when Rich Rod coached so I don't know much about him compared to other WVU fans that want him.

Coach Rod doesn't need a chance he already had it and blew it. Baker gave that contract extension also to Neal Brown and who cares if Baker can hire a good chest coach or golf coach or whatever. Football is what matters. If he would have already hired Jimbo Fisher, Jimbo would be at the helm working his butt off and that five star quarterback that just entered the portal at Texas A&m would be headed to West Virginia. Enrollment is way down at WVU and Jimbo Fisher would turn that around. Hiring coach Rod is just going to make everyone argue and fight and cause Baker at bunch of problems. Just like we all fought over firing Neal Brown for the last 2 years, now it's fire breaker and Rod. No wonder West Virginia always seems to finish last or people are stupid at the top.

If for no other reason, we should be grateful that it's taken this long because have a history of making poor hires. Let me preface this next statement before I say it: I absolutely loved Bill Stewart. Stew was one of the most gracious, unbelievably kind and real people that I have ever had the pleasure of personally knowing. That said... I worked within the athletic dept at that exact time and how Billy was hired was a travesty. There was absolutely no forethought and no concern and no consideration for the future of our program or even Stew. Now obviously, Billy did alright and that was a big sigh of relief but Fast Eddie should have never pulled the trigger like he did. There was only a few other candidates at that time because it was such a new opening but so far as I know they didn't even get a call back. Pastilong saw an opportunity to save a bunch of money and get back to doing nothing and he didn't look back. Despite boosters and advisors saying "Wait! Pump the brakes! This was a great win but...hold on!" It was bad for Stew, it was a bad, bad way to run a program all because a shit ton of high emotions, some laziness and a hell of a lot of alcohol. There was no due diligence even ever attempted.

WAS a Rich Rod hater, till I found out why he left. College football is like a semi truck, there are a lot of moving parts, and it takes a lot to get it rolling to make you money. So when you get it rolling, you have to put a little money back in that truck or you will be sitting making making no money at all again. Rich Rod needed money for his truck at that time, and they were rolling in the money, but the money was going everywhere else but back in the truck so he was refused. He was about to loose his staff, long story short. I am sure Wren is smart enough to take good care of his truck in the future.

I don’t think money is the main issue with Jamie Chadwell but the combination of it and the risk factor of potential Neal Brown results. I personally think Rich Rod is unlikely to get the job even with the possible uptick of nil money. I believe Wren is looking at this hire as a business decision also and dividing a large portion of the fan base would be a bad decision. I personally think Wren going to do what he thinks is best regardless of what the donors say, for the donors are still going to donate either way. Just maybe at a different level than if they get what they want, and winning / picking the right coach will lead to an uptick in donations I'm sure. Rumer is Andy K is the front runner but who actually knows. I'll support whoever including RR who I dont want. I could see everyone getting surprised & Wren hiring neither Andy K or RR. I see Jeff M as a maybe slighty further down the list. However, I could Wren absolutely surprising everyone with a Jamie C hire. A really good resume he has but unfortunately he hasn't showed interest bin leaving Liberty. But could see Wren getting donors on board to land Jamie C. Or a couple other not mentioned for that fact. From what I've researched Jamie C & Andy K would be my top two or , in my top 5 at min

He had a scandal at Arizona let's not forget, which does not seem like a road that Wren Baker wants to take after the Huggins situation. The whole reason it has probably taken this long is because of our donors and former players who won't stfu about RR. Support us or don't.
