Methylated spirits is just like denatured alcohol. It's a great fuel for the trangia burner without any soot. Purell hand sanitizer works too. It will leave some residue in the burner. It does burn cleanly also without soot. Cat litter from natural pine pellets are also great for your stove. It does not burn off chemicals. Just keep your fuel below the secondary combustion holes, and all is good. Wait for the flame to be see through so the flame will be clean enough to not make soot from wood or pellets. Thanks for your videos! :)

Tried cat litter one before in a wood burner and it just smouldered. Maybe it was damp or something.

Cheers, Rob! First off, feel free to pick up as many chestnuts as you can and send them across the pond to me 😂 Second, good to see you break out the Tomshoo again. Third, I love how simple you are. You can just hit Asda or whatever, grab a dish of some sort, and go heat it up. Don't need fancy recipes. Guess now that the weather is cooling here, I may break out one or two of my twig stoves and do some videos cooking on them. Hope all is well, my friend!

It would be good to cookout from scratch but I when I was a kid me and my mates would go to the shop, grab some easy food and go light a fire somewhere and cook it up, on local waste ground. I guess I’m re-enacting my youth doing this sort of thing.

@@robtherover most of my meals come from scratch, and it gets tiring, especially after a long walk to get there. I've recently been trying to find simpler foods and prefer to save my scratch meals for when I'm at camp instead. I've been meaning to try some of the Wal-Mart/Asda style meals, but my local store sells horrible options 😂

Several other wood burning stoves offer the same choice. Firebox stoves are either wood or the little alcohol stoves , offering the camper a choice. I have one of the titanium Nano Gen 2 and use both fuels at different times. I like the wood for a longer burn and the alcohol for a quick cup of a hot beverage. Solo Stove Lite can be used the same way along with others even the Vargo wood burners. .

@@Oldsparkey yes it’s a good feature of some wood stoves to accommodate a spirit burner. My bushbox XL holds one nicely.

I have a soft spot for the old tomshoo stove and often use it , but l find unless the wood is bone dry it usually ends up as a smoke machine , also a bugger for blowing out if wind gets up,
@robtherover3 ай бұрын
@@in0124 yeah it can be difficult if the woods damp. As I recall the video I made where I cooked up some haggis on the tomshoo was difficult to keep going.

Cheers mate. It is my new jacket. Smells of wood smoke now. Which is great. Rode my bike home from work in the pouring rain the other night. Top half bone dry, bottom half soaked within a hundred yards. Have ordered the bottoms now.

@@robtherover thinking of ordering one for work uniforms, is that a Velcro patch on the arm , if so it would be great for putting our logo on. Roughly how much are they?

@@aabbushcraft I think it was about £149 so not cheap. But my old north face I used to wear was the same price.it is a Velcro patch. Was thinking of getting my channel logo made up.

If you add a little water to the trangia it stops your pans,kettle sooting up.

Use denatured alcohol and you will not have any soot or cleaning up to do. Been using it for over 40 years ( or longer ) and never had to clean a stove.
