Oh, Kristen, 2 weddings in one weekend with toddlers and having to run around to pick and buy. You are indeed a very brave soul. I did weddings back in the ‘80’s as a little side business. I worked full time. My children were teens, not toddlers, and I bought everything from the wholesale florist. Bouquets were much more traditional back then. Lovely grasses wouldn’t have cut it. The best weddings were the ones with silk flowers. Plenty of time to get it done. Charging for time is really hard, but you will figure it out. It will be much better when you have more growing space. You also must keep track of your mileage if your tax code allows that for a deduction. I hated the numbers part. I thrived on the creative part. But the numbers are very important. You also must add in a little for florist tape, wire, etc. Now growing your flowers….there’s a whole lot of cost there. I guess you could look up wholesale price lists and double that for each type of flower. It’s an overwhelming task, but you’ll figure it out, and then everything will fall into place. The bouquets and centerpieces were beautiful….as always. The peony leaves made a huge difference. You have a good eye and you’re very creative. So many disappointments with your flowers not blooming at the right time, etc., but you pulled it off beautifully. Congratulations. Best wishes for success always.

Thank you for always cheering me on--and you are totally right. I think when I set my prices, I thought about the cost of the flowers and the ribbon, but not really anything else. Oh well, live and learn!! And yes, the toddler part adds an extra layer to everything!!

I’m happy to be of any help to you that I can. You never look like you need cheering up. You are always smiling in your videos and looking to the bright side while just mentioning the disappointments. I saw what I suspect were a lot of “OMG, what am I going to do now” moments….that’s how I would have felt….maybe I would have shed a tear or two. Weddings are the best and the worst….a lot of satisfaction in the end, but a lot of anxiety striving for perfection in the process. You pulled it off beautifully. I think the universe is with you… your mom’s neighbors offering up their flowers, the choke cherries, the wild grasses just waiting for you to pluck them up, the peony leaves, etc. You did great! You had a lot of obstacles and you conquered them. You should be very proud of yourself. Perhaps you could get some banquet work this winter using the wholesale florist. I always found that the easiest and most profitable. I would set up however many containers with floral foam, green it up, design one piece, then do a production line. You may not have time if you’re moving…and you certainly deserve some time away from it. Keep smiling, Kristen, you’ve got what it takes.

So how many gardens do you have ? I know u have one at your house and 1 at your moms and then another somewhere? Do u plant everything and manage all of them ??? Omg. My dahlias are very slow to open ....and just not as prolific as I had hoped. I am in zone 8 and they have been in the ground since early March

3. The one my Mom has I don’t do much except give her the plants and seeds. I take care of the one at my house and my MIL’s. It’s crazy, but it’s the only way I can attempt to grow what I need to right now.
