Backyard Business: Wrong Blooms, Wrong Times

Shifting Roots

Күн бұрын

In this next instalment of my backyard cut flower business, Mother Nature is not entirely co-operating. This week I'm fulfilling another wedding order, and hosting another pop up sale. The flowers are finally starting to bloom, but they all seem to be the wrong colours, or the right colours are blooming at the wrong time!! See how I deal, plus my total sales this week. First year cut flower farming for profit is not for the weak!

I love your bouquets, your attitude, your willingness to share the nitty gritty of the business side of flower farming! Great job on getting that order filled too, I bet that bride was thrilled with it all. Oh, and that boutonnière was perfection!! 💕 👏🏻😊💐

I am loving this slight shift in content lately, and I'm loving that you're highlighting all the ups and downs. This is my first year flower farming, and I find your honest look at the process enormously refreshing. So thank you! And side note-- that statice literally matches the CSA bouquet I'm making today perfectly lol--- it just needs the ProCut red lemon bicolor sunflower to go with it 😉

Oh my goodness, I love how you used tomato foliage and green tomatoes in your pop up sale bouquets! Your bridal arrangements are gorgeous as well! I sell bouquets from my home each weekend and some weekends just seem to do better than others, so I feel you. I think you do beautiful work. You have totally inspired me!

Beautiful bouquets ❤😊🎉! I've only seen you two or three times now and really enjoyed everything. Your so honest about the difficulties about getting your name and business out there and yet you don't dwell on that but keep on moving forward with a smile and positive outlook. Keep up the good work, continue to 😊, and learn more each day. Your children are sweet.❤ As you are aware, it takes time to start up a new business. Maybe one day you'll sing a few bars so we can hear your voice.🎉. Thanks for the good job your doing.🎉

I loved this bouquet so much! I loved all the textures of all the greenery! My son is 2 (& I have an 8 year old) & I don't even try to get anything done in the garden unless it's in the morning before hes awake or when my husband is watching him! He'll pull out flowers, empty buckets of water, etc.

The bouquets are all beautiful! That bridal bouquet is stunning and I’m sure she loved it. And way to really hustle this year! I’ve just been giving away small market-style bouquets in my local Buy Nothing group, but I’ve also run into some issues with people asking for the flowers and then not responding in a timely fashion. I try to be really clear now that if people want to be considered, then they need to be able to pick it up that day! Also, I have been eyeing my somewhat underutilized basement chest freezer and wishing it was an extra fridge instead. Well yesterday I just learned that there’s a device that can basically override the thermostat to turn it into a chest refrigerator. People use it for kegs of beer or making wine fridges, but I may use it for a small flower cooler. (Not the same as a professional floral cooler, I realize, but it would work to keep flowers fresh for a few days, I’m sure.

How long do you condition? 8ve been finding that some of my flowers randomly oddly don't hydrate like some of the celos8a and sunflowers. Some will well, some not...? So I feel like I have to harvest harvest land ahead of time to make sure they rehydrate sure they rehydrate well.
