2 weeks is only selection, pre weed out. Q course could be anywhere from 9+ months to 2 yrs total training for a medic

That changed a lot from when I went (Feb 2002). It was a month long course when I went. The cadres I had, we were shocked at how laid back they were. There wasn't all this yelling and whatnot. We didn't have a class leader and we still wore our rank (if it was sewn), but we all knew rank meant nothing. The cadres left us to do our own thing with our own time, but looking back, I think they were seeing who would adapt to the lack of instruction. Seemed very Afghanistan-oriented. All they told us was that for the duration of the course, check the board and you had 5 minutes to be ready for the task at hand. The board could change at any time of the day, night, 2:30 in the morning, etc, so there was a lot of sleep deprivation just from that. But it also showed who were team players, thinkers and exposed the selfish. I lasted almost two weeks, because people the joes around me didn't pick up on the pattern. Tried get a firewatch for the board going so we all could get more rest, but they weren't feeling it. Most were just trying to show how tough they were. I didn't make it because of a back injury (thanks to the snow storm), but the head cadre dressed in flip flops, shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, looking like a young Tom Selleck in a baseball cap said I can retry in a year. That guy was the epitome of chill.

@Murderface6662 ай бұрын
@@mikesmith7497 No. Lower back injuries, you pretty much live with it for the rest of your life. And it's so prevalent in the Infantry, because there's always that Sergeant that wanted to push everyone, thinking they're building super soldiers, but in turn ended up sabotaging joe's careers.

Sorry to hear your back kept you from going again. The cadre interaction in this film is for the show. My kid went through a couple years ago and it’s exactly as you described it. He made it.

It's still a month or 24 days anyway the two weeks in he'll is just referring to the portion of SFAS they show. I know a guy at 20th Group that was the head of the training Cadre that dressed exactly as you describe in fact he wore UDT Shorts and a Hawaiian Shirt in Afghanistan but that was 2003 and he was a Vietnam dude so he wasn't teaching at SFAS.

I went through the second SFAS. Some comments: Ours was 21 days long. We stayed in the ISOFAC. We got ZERO pep talks or "this is how it is". No class leader - everyone responsible cor themself - all info on whiteboard. 41% of my class passed. DOL
@thelmadickinson68112 ай бұрын
Dang. That’s a high %. There is a class of Nov ‘21 that had 51%. The last class that just got back had 10%. Pervasive thought is that if they just don’t quit, they will make it and they neglect to perform.

@@thelmadickinson6811 Yes it was much easier PRE 2021-2022. There were a ton of green berets killed during that time and before due to negligence and lack of training. The training is much different now, that's why only 1%-10% pass now.

Now the candidates have buildings and instructions are on a tv screen. Which means they really have to watch the "board". They can change it without having to walk to it. If I had hut duty I would wait till the "look outs" let their guard down. One thing I did during log pt that was different was that I didnt yell.
