I did the same thing while my husband was in last stages of cancer, had my engagement ring to be fixed. I am glad I did that and I am sure that my husband felt the same way. My husband cried only 2 times, once when his mother died and 1 day before his death, that he did not want to leave myself and my son. His protection for us was there to the end. My only son died 2 yrs after my husband, and it is hard being left alone but I thank God for those 53 years with my husband and son. God bless you and your family; I miss the hectic time and energy needed to care for us all. God first, Family second importance in your life is important, that you will not have any regrets. It is the little things that you remember.

Thank you for saying that. When I was a young woman I would be one of those women that would forget that men have feelings. Sometimes , we women learn the hard way that everyone has feelings. That we are all different in showing our emotions. 🥹

I'd already been crying today. I lost my husband of 55 years in October. We always said "please" and "thank you" for anything we did for each other. The last few months were rough. He would call me to his bed and tell me thank you for all I was doing. And tell me how much he loved me. I have a daughter, son, 3 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons. The baby, born in November has my husband's name. Tomorrow I start babysitting him. I also have a grandson with 2 children who has alienated himself from us. I wear his wedding band on my thumb now. Sometimes the loneliness is overwhelming, but God is always with me, to strengthen me, provide for me and protect me. I will be ok. Life goes on and I move forward in my new journey. I know I will be fine. I am loved. 😊

I will never forget when my Daddy got Mom a new wedding ring set for Christmas one year. He was so proud and showed it to my sisters and me. He got Mom’s old set and told her he was getting it cleaned and checked for her Christmas present. Christmas morning, Mom was so surprised but also heartbroken because he told her that he turned her old set in as a trade in. That was her wedding set, not the new one. Mom was not ungrateful or angry, it was just a sentimental loss for her. That next business day, my Daddy was back at the local jeweler and bought her set back. She cried, he was relieved and she wore both. Both sets were very modest, but he wanted her to have a diamond, not just little chips of them set in gold. They sure loved each other and we all miss him so much. ♥️

About 6 years ago I lost the little diamond in my ring that my husband had bought me at 21 years old. I was devastated. We went to the jewelers to pick out a replacement and the sales lady was so excited saying, “you can upgrade now”. No, I want you to match the new one as closely as you can to the diamond that my husband saved his pennies for at the young age of 21. She just looked at me like I was crazy. It’s not about the size of the diamond lady. Married 31 years this May ❤

Bought my wife her ring when I was 18. A whole 2 pt chip. At least the ring was real gold. That was 48 years ago. She did "upgrade" her rings a few times, but she kept the original.

I have known my hubby since I was 13 and he was 18. We married at me 23 and him 28. We just this past September celebrated 40 years of marriage. Right now I cannot wear my wedding ring since with the cancer I have lost 34 pounds and I don't want to lose it. I haven't had it resized because I hope to gain back the weight I lost. My hubby has never worn his ring since he worked around electrical and was afraid of it fusing to his finger. It was never a problem for me since I knew he loved me and was always committed. Since getting cancer these last two times, I have had cancer three times, he has been my angel. With this cancer I lost the ability to speak and we talk through the speechify program on my phone or tablet. His patience with me and the situation has been a blessing from God. I love him dearly and I know he loves me too. God will see us through this.

Your story is a testimony of how love can lift the human spirit and create a resilience that hardly seems possible. A story that will travel from this life to another one day in the distant future hopefully. This love of your husbands and yours is an inspiration to all of us. 🫶🏼

Like James, I did not take off my band throughout our marriage. My wife was called home several years ago, and it took me three years to take off my ring. I took it to a jewelry store, and they cut my ring, slipped my late wife's ring through it, and heated my ring to bond it together again; both our rings formed joined the rings into a figure eight as we were joined as one in Sacramental Marriage. I turned a box from a maple tree from a branch by her grave and placed our joined figure 8 ring in that box I turned.

A day before my husband lost his ability to communicate while passing from cancer, he whispered to me these exact words: "I'm so glad that you're my girl." These were his last coherent words to me, and he passed to heaven just short of our 40th anniversary about three days later. Those words will forever resonate with me and came from the heart of a man who loved me to the nth degree. Treasure those words and actions of your loved ones!!

My hubs works nights. One morning I got up, and he had copied a pic of me on the printer at work. He typed on it EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH and stuck it on the fridge. That silly thing made my heart smile. My hubs is a man of few words. He is not a cuddle bug, but he does tell me he loves me all the time. He is not a flowers and chocolate man. I tell you what, that silly little piece of copy paper with my picture and those words meant more to me than anything he could have bought me. We will be married for 33 years in September. I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer 10 years ago. He was my best friend. The memories of the small things shared between us, those are what sustain me. It was horrible to watch him die, inch by inch, over a year and a half. But the gift of that time allowed us to savor the tender moments and say what we needed to say to each other. We had the gift of a long goodbye. In one conversation, I thanked him for loving me. His response? “Oh, you have been so easy to love.” Is it possible for anyone to say something more sweet to you than that? Absolutely not.

My wonderful husband doesn't say much. But on our wedding day he sent me a dozen roses. On the card it said "As long as there are roses on the earth, I will love you. Enjoy this day." It is tucked in my keepsake box, and in my heart. It was probably a little thing to him. But to me on a hectic stressful day, it meant everything. I stopped and smelled the roses, and enjoyed our day.

1/15/25, today is our 53rd Anniversary. He's still my best friend. I laughed about your wedding ring because about 25 years ago, from doing barn chores, my finger got infected under my wedding band and the doctor had to cut it into 2 pieces to remove it. I always thought I would have it remade, but I got another band for going out and the 2 pieces sit in my jewelry box. My husband has worn his every day for the 53 years. Glad you made James' day.

They mean more to me, a symbol of us. It really hurts my feelings, he wasn't trying to be malice. We picked up my rings the other day and he told me he was glad I did what I wanted to. I love them and the history behind them, our history.

Years ago I wrote letters to the older women in my little church I grew up in and told them how they had impacted my life and made me into the woman I am now(72 yrs). They had been my Sunday school teachers, vacation Bible school teachers, sang in choir with me, taught me to play the piano and organ, gave me a wedding shower (with recipes!), advice, modeled a Christian life, volunteering, how to settle disagreements, and care for their families. This was all before they passed onto heaven and I think of them and my older family often doing everyday things together, their visits with coffee at the kitchen table. I miss them all. And their wisdom and love. Tell those in your life what they mean to you and thier impact on you.

We needed money to pay our electric bill so it would not get turned off, so I sold my diamond. We did not get anything close to what it was worth but it paid our bill. I never regretted selling it. Patara, this hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm tearing up as I write this. I have been married to my High School sweetheart for 56 years. My husband has never taken his ring off either. Over the years I quit wearing my set too. First it was due to sizing. Then due to work, then I got to feeling uneasy about wearing it due to fear of being a"target" for theft. Then due to getting older and being more at risk for being attacked. This seems so ridiculous to me now. I'm going to get mine redone and start wearing them again. I realize now how this may have made him feel funny, and he may have never voiced anything about it either. Like you said, it represents our beginning. And I wouldn't trade that for anything. Thank you💕

When my husband and I got married he did work on farms fixing equipment. He had a van that he drove from farm to farm so he could work on equipment. So he did not want a wedding band because of that. However, I kept it in my mind that I wanted him to have one. So when he decided to retire from that line of work, I was babysitting a neighbor boy and I saved that money up and bought him a wedding band without him knowing. Then I gave it to him on our anniversary and he cried. He wore it and never took it off. It did not leave his finger until they removed it after he died. I put it on a chain and wore it around my neck for several months and it is now in a cloth bag inside my jewelry box along with my wedding ring. I was so happy and moved to hear your story on this video. I had tears in my eyes also. Thank you so much for sharing that with us all. O O O ❤❤❤

I lost my original wedding band many years ago, lost a bunch of weight and it just fell off, I think it met the vacuum cleaner. But I’ve been pondering for a few years now to get a new one made from my diamond and my grandma’s wedding ring. I think you just inspired me to get that done. And I Thank You also for be a blessing in my life and keeping me motivated through all the things going on in the world!

Thank you. I saved $100 when I was in middle school to buy my mother a mother's ring. I was so happy to be able to do that, honor her. I knew nothing about gem stones so bought what I thought was lovely. Several years later she showed me a new mother's ring. She got it because the stones were worth more and quality better. She bought it herself. I was very hurt. She did not value my gift, the honor I gave, the money I saved to give her honor. She valued what she wanted, expensive gemstones.

James really is a keeper. 😊. Loved your story. It's true that we never know what an impact we will make on someone. My oldest grandson (22 yrs) called me one day and told me thank you. I asked, "About what?" He said because you and Grandpa took me to so many places when I was younger. I never realized that other kids didn't have that with their grandparents. I just wanted you to know those were some of the best times. My heart just burst when he said that.

How many Christmas days do we remember the gifts? Not many. But we remember the times we had them. Who was with us. What we did. What we ate. Those are the “important” things in life.

My husband and I have been married 52 years. Tonight we sat at the kitchen table and talked about taking our son to the Knoxville Zoo when he was three and how my husband carried him all through the zoo on his shoulders. Beautiful memories. We know what you mean, sweetheart. Your story brought tears to my eyes. God bless you and James, Patera.

Oh Patera...and James, thank you for sharing your story. I lost my beautiful wedding ring! Before the wedding! (We think my daughter was playing with it ) The guilt I had was terrible and we never replaced it. I released my guilt the second I delivered his toe headed son at home without drugs! Sorry bout the ring baby....but that hurt! Beautiful son is 25 now, and I gave him 2 more children. He's a beautiful man like your James. Hold on to one another. Stacy in Texas

I think it might be that James felt honored that you still wanted what he chose for you. It was like choosing him all over again! My husband said "thank you" once while I was washing my dirty face. I said "what?" He said, "For taking care of yourself." Aw! I'm thinking, "Thanks for noticing!" My love language tends to be gifts. I think about him all the time, and that comes out in me bringing home little packages of candy, cookies, or snacks for him. And he loves that, but see, it isn't just sugar! We just celebrated 29 years in November. He has asked me if I'd like to upgrade my wedding set. I've said "No way." I love what he chose for me. And my engagement ring came with a very special story and Scripture! My eyes tear up when I think of it!

Good talk. I have been a grandmother as long as you have been married. Due to arthritis my wedding set won’t fit and enlarging doesn’t work because some days my finger is small, others larger. W3 agreed to give my engagement ring to our granddaughter. Last month he bought me a gold necklace and said, “ If I can’t get a ring on your finger, I’ll put one on your neck.” 52 years strong and love him literally more than life itself. P.S. I wear a stretchy ring now.

My husband and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. I would not want to go through this life without him in it. Like you my wedding rings need to be stretched a bit, but my goal is to loose enough weight to have them fit again like the day he placed them on my finger. Always thank your spouse for the little things they do, you never know what that could mean to them. Stay safe, happy and healthy. Love your channel.

I love your story. About 10 years ago, I fell on a loose boulder while hiking in AZ, and smashed my wedding ring knuckle bad enough I had to remove my ring before the swelling got worse. After it healed, I never could get the ring back on. And the jeweler said it was too thin to stretch, that it would break. So for years, I went without a ring. Then in 2021, my husband proposed a 2nd time, asking if I would be his shield maiden, and provided me with a new set. Like you, I leave it off when I'm working with the animals or in the garden, but I always wear it when I leave home. Sometimes it's hard to believe we've been married over 20 years.

My dad turns 94 on the 24 of this month. Recently given a diagnosis of dementia, along with other problems he’s had for last couple of years. Mom’s been gone now over 20 years now….. made it a point to go up at Christmas this year, and trying to make the 3 hour drive( one way) at least once a month to see him and spend time with him. So afraid he won’t be here this time next year…. Have seen this strong man go downhill so much these last few months.

@sandysmith8567 I put my small iron skillet in a toaster oven with cornbread and where it didn't close all the way I used Reynolds wrap to keep the heat in. But I understand her frustration. I went without an oven for probably over 18 years. But I was single and I made it work. Now my new gas stove has a regulator on it that I don't like I can't turn the flame down as far as I need to 🙄

My very first relationship was at 16. He was very abusive and when I tried to break up with him, he tried to kill himself overdosed on pills. I remember breaking down and crying in the hallway at my mom and dad‘s house. No one was home. I prayed out loud, dear Lord please send me the person I’m supposed to be with for the rest of my life. I never wanna go through this Again. Six months later, I met the love of my life. We have been together since 1998 and have three beautiful boys.. We are more in love today than we we were then. God answered my prayers, and we are so blessed. 💜 🙏

Same with hubby and I, we didn’t wear our rings while working with the animals or doing daily work on the farm. When we sold the livestock in 1995 we still continued to farm crops and never put our rings back on. We both knew we didn’t need to wear our rings because of the love we felt for each other. Hubby passed August 28th and I miss him dearly.
