Coming from a long experience on a number of classic 911 variants,the first time I had a test drive on a Tiptronic fitted 996 I felt disappointed but in a following drive on a 997 PDK I quickly realized that PDK is an eminently functional device both in daily driving and in whatever occasion you want to really push hard on the pedal. I can just imagine how is PDK performing on the following 911 series....Great job by Porsche engineering staff.

Glad to see your 911 again, it's such a beautiful car. My 997.2 is Meteor Grey and I agree, black is nice but very hard to keep it looking clean. You have a very desirable 911 especially since it's a 6sp manual. Mine is also a manual and it's a keeper, I have no desire to upgrade from this car. The 991 & 992 just isn't my cup of tea, the biggest reason is I like to work on my own car and the newer models just makes it too difficult to access the engine. The GT3 is a track focus car with a super hard and tight suspension, unless you're into this I wouldn't recommend it. I would go for the Turbo as they are more suited for the streets and cost about the same since I don't track my car. You have a very special and should keep it bro. :)

Hey Anthony, one way to keep your tires from flat spotting is by over-inflating them before parking it for long periods of time. You also may be able to correct your current flat spot by over-inflating, let it sit, then on your next drive, get the tires warm, at least 10 miles before deflating them. It should cure the issue. You may have to wait for the weather to warm up where you are to get good results. I have the Sharkwerks X pipe and the Fister on my 997.2 S. It sounds great! If you like, I can send you a short video or sound bite to hear for yourself. I have the PDK in mine with the sports chrono package. Driving it in Sport or Sport Plus is every bit as fun as a manual. Plus there is a bonus.... Launch Control. Manuals aren’t available with Launch Control.

Love my 2010 997.2 Targa 4S in black on black with pdk and factory turbo wheels ( like yours) which I purchased 5 years ago after my 1998 993 Targa doubled in value after only 4 years of ownership. Current car is my third 911 variant, the first having been a 1979 911SC in GP white with tartan. Without doubt the best daily driver real sports car on the planet bar none. Not a fan of the later, fatter cars and I don't need the newest to impress the neighbours. Could go Italian but don't need to either. I drive them because I love them. Those who know, know and that's enough for me because it's not about wealth, it's about enthusiasm.

Excellent video! I have the same exact car except for PDK which is a revelation compared to any true torque converter automatic. I hated the Turbo wheels at first but now I have grown to love them. I do my own work on the car and therefore would never consider a later model Porsche. These Dot 2 cars are the last of the more analog, compact and sporting Porsche cars. The later cars are longer, wider, heavier and more Grand Touring than sports car oriented. Think very carefully before letting your Dot 2 go down the road without you.

The 997.1 and 997.2’s are such good value now, and should hold, making them a smart buy. My cab has ceramic brakes and they are amazing. I would never have another 911 without them. @beemer11114 жыл бұрын
WatchWithMe My ceramic brake car is actually a 997.1 , a 2009 with only 24k on it. I bought it very recently and it has new pads, by the previous owner that he purchased in the US and had installed by an independant, who appears to have been a very good mechanic. I have only put just over 1k on this car, and I am really enjoying it, even the TIP compared to the PDK in my 2012 Coupe, also with approx 25k miles, and very low maintenance costs. I normally do my own fluids, brake pads, plugs and filters. The 2009 has new coil packs, and both cars have fresh tires. The 2009 is bone stock while the 12 has a Sharkwerks Center exhaust, which I really like. It appears that other than these regular wear items, these cars will be very reliable, and easy to self service. Having 2, I plan to spread the mileage out, although I am loving the Cab. I have center locks on the 2012, but hate the brake dust, and am loving how the ceramic brakes on the 09 don’t make the wheels dirty.

I think your car looks amazing! Now there are more synthetic and less raw versions of the 911, I think having a second-generation 997 "Manual" is a fortune! It has some performance characteristics that have been lost in modern cars, such as hydraulic power steering, small body size, and natural aspiration. I am telling you all these because I’ve been enthusiast about 911 from many time ago. I used to have some GT3 and other trims also, and my conclusion is there are no doubts GT3 991.1 is a perfect machine, but the only downside to have it, is that it is extremely punished on resale price when you put some miles on it, here in America they become like “garage queens” more than a truly drivers car. So if your focus it’s not to go to the track, you should keep your awesome GEM 💎 . About the shaking on the steering caused by the tires, my advise is, before replacing tires, try to drive it without the 15mm spacers, (5max), your 997.2 need the OEM NEGATIVE scrub radius on front wheels and MAYBE the cause are the thick spacers, turning the steering scrub radius to positive , the sensitive hydraulic steering of the 997.2, is very affected by + scrub radius, especially on braking and stability on straight line. You are right about the black color, it requires a lot of maintenance , but looks beautiful!, what about adding plastic protection film all over, you will fix the problem right away! Your Black 997.2 looks gorgeous!!!! Congratulations! Keep it !!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Thank you so much for all that information! I’m going to try to change the spacers tomorrow and see what happens. I would hate for that to be the solution being 1, I purchased an extra tire already and 2, I love the look of the 15mm in the front. I’ll see what happens. My car has ppf on the front, needs to be pulled off but worry about the paint coming up with it. Test drove a 991 GT3 a month ago a and loved it. Prices are dropping quickly. A year ago or more 120 now can be found for 99-105.
@rubioalejo4 жыл бұрын
WatchWithMe The main issue with a wheel spacer is that it moves the wheel to a wider position whilst the rest of the suspension arms remain in the same place. In particular, the king pin inclination axis remains in the same place. Therefore, fitting a wheel spacer moves the wheel outboard and alters the scrub radius of the car. It is important to know whether your car currently has negative or positive scrub radius and ideally how much it has. Fitting a wheel spacer will increase the positive scrub radius at the front wheels which has some unfavorable consequences. If your car already has a bit of positive scrub radius then the wheel spacer will increase it. An increase in positive scrub radius increases the forces on the steering rack under braking conditions. Any bumps in the road will also be amplified through the steering wheel, making the steering jerky and more unpredictable. Twitching wheels when braking can cause the tire to lose grip and ultimately can cause the wheels to lock up and slide. An increase in positive scrub radius also causes the wheel to gain positive camber when the wheels are being turned, reducing grip in corners on the front wheels and producing understeer.If your car has the more favorable set up of negative scrub radius then installing a wheel spacer can cause bigger issues. The outward movement of the wheel can make a negative scrub radius become zero. This is the worst position for it to be in. A zero scrub radius can cause squirm. This is where a scrubbing action occurs on both front tyres in opposite directions which can create unpredictable handling in corners and can lead to understeer too. Secondly, installing wheel spacers on a car increases the leverage on the wheel bearing. The larger the spacer, the larger the leverage becomes. This reduces the life of the wheel bearing as they are not made to take leverage forces and can therefore wear faster, increasing rolling resistance and power loss of the car. Finally, the wheel spacer moves the wheel further away from the damper mounting point. This means that the wheel will have a larger effect upon the damper and will act upon it with more leverage. This effectively makes the spring and damper softer and less effective on the wheel. This means that the car can roll more on corner entry and exit and feel generally softer out on track or on the road.. The 911 geometry it is very sensitive!! When you made even small changes, the impact is noticeable. Moderns cars with rear traction, the scrub radius should be Negative/front and Positive/Rear, so in your case there are no problems with 15mm spacers in the back, the problem is on front, your car was build withOEM negative front scrub radius of (-)10mm , so when you pull out the wheels 15mm SR becomes POSITIVE +5mm. Porsche recommendation is max 5mm spacers, because in that way you still keeping (-)5mm negative SR. Your 997.2 OEM front wheels size is 8”x19 ET57 , so adding 15mm spacers your ET turned to 42, but your maximum by recommendation is ET52. There 2 smart ways to pull out your wheels to have a flush look 1- )Replacing with a 1/2” thicker wheels but maintaining same or very close offset (ET). For example : 8.5x19 ET52 is equivalent to having 11mm spacer on the OEM wheels but only affects SR by 5mm. 2-)You can get a wider track with new suspension arms without altering scrub radius and using OEM wheels. About the front protected film, it’s better to removed as soon is possible with heat steam , otherwise it will be harder later. If the paint is original, it will not came off! Cheers!

Pros: always puts a smile on my face, handles so well, stands out, feels special, unleashes demons above 4,500rpm. Hello from the Midwest. Enjoyed your video on your Carrera. LOL on the “s” in Illinois. We call ‘em “Fibs”...but I digress. I have a ‘12 GTS Manual. Love my car...The way it is. I to respect the GT3, but why anybody would mod an exterior on a beautiful manual Carrera to “look” like a GT3....Buy a GT3 if you want a GT3. Don’t put a GT3 front on your beautiful car. If you track your car the GT3 is awesome. A street car GT3? Not the way I would go, but of course if taken care of you are not going to lose money on a GT3. I would not care to own a Porsche with an automatic, but they do shift “faster” so if you are racing the car it is an advantage. The scratch in shipping for a grand and the flatspotting would of driven me crazy. (I am a little OCD too lol). Sorry about both of those...Only mods I have on exterior are the Rear fender black rock scuff applications as well as clear side-markers and screens for intakes on front. The GTS sports exhaust sounds great and the car has the power pack OEM. Interior I would like to add the “carbon kit” as it looks great on the stick. I have a short shift kit. Hope you enjoy your GT3 some day. Get a manual 997.2 vs. PDK...YOU WILL BE HAPPIER....Forgot I also replaced the OEM hood badge with a fantastic Nickel and Black Badge. Can swap back as it is just a couple screws. The new badge on the Carrera White pops on the car vs. Gold on white...

Hey, it’s your car and the rear wing can be deleted should you ever wish to do so...or next owner. Hope you saved the original? Same with front lip. I just submit that your car IS beautiful and so is a GT3. If you want a GT3 get one instead of trying to make your Carrera “look” like a GT3. I am a big believer in OEM parts too. Porsches hold their value and appreciate with time. You can put miles on them and in 30 years they will be desired. Just my 2 cents. A lot of money for only that much miles. Don’t forget to factor in the insurance costs as well.

Do you have the sports exhaust?
@watchwithme914 жыл бұрын
Xpipe only.
@imkona872 жыл бұрын
My first mod was the SharkWerks X pipe. Didn’t quite achieve the sound I wanted, so added the Fister mufflers. Perfect, reasonably priced combination.

Got 997.2 C4S put on HRE P1 and Akrapovic titanium exhaust. Should either overpressure the tires prior to storage or on blocks.

Fantastic, could not be happier though very expensive installed. Minus nearly 30 pounds and gorgeous sound.

It was the car of your dreams, now you want something else? And you keep it at mommy's house???
@watchwithme914 жыл бұрын
Well the 911 in general is a dream car for me but I always strive for something greater. And yes it’s at “mommy’s house” nyc roads are awful and monthly garage parking cost upwards of $500 plus a month so yeah... I’ll take the free parking and another excuse to see my mother who I love more than anything. Cheers.

Those lumps you have to have on a 911 in America either side of u licence plate look terrible. Stupid law you need to have them on a 911. Looks ridiculous. Such a backward country
