We reflect on some of the things that they've learned from being in an interracial relationship for two years. Though we are both half-Korean, which gives us a common cultural ground, our other halves are different culturally, which plays a big role in our relationship. During our time together, we've been challenged to see the world differently and more empathetically, which has allowed us to grow closer together. Find out what else we had to say about what we've learned.
We are Skycedi (Cedric) and Becky, a creative couple living in Seoul, South Korea. We are both half-Koreans from the United States with a passion for discussing culture, our experiences in Korea, and creating creative cinematic short films and stories.
ABOUT The Podcast:
"The Other Half of It," which is a podcast where we reveal what it’s really like living as a creative couple in South Korea. Here we discuss the behind the scenes of our work, our lifestyle, and what keeps us motivated to keep on creating.

Are you both permanently settling in Korea even after marriage? Or are you open to moving back to the U.S.?

I can relate with Becky. Sometimes women just need our significant other to listen and comfort us on bad days. I like how the two of you are honest about topics that can be uncomfortable for some people. Congratulations on 2 years together!!! Never give up on each other. You both have grown emotionally as a couple. I admire how supportive you are of each other. It’s refreshing that you are not pressured by society’s expectations.

As an American multi-racial male I not only see myself as a part of the black cultural but part of the white and indigenous cultures. American blacks have always been a part of the white culture so it's nothing new to adjust, we have always adjusted. So, it's not half and half. I had no problem adjusting to my wife's culture -who is white nor to my friend's who are hispanic, white and black. As for the hair I have to go to a hispanic barber because they usually know how to cut all types of hair. Most if the black barbers want to give me the usual black haircut style instead of what I wanted. Your hair style should concur with your head shape, but to each his own. Just think that the two of you were meant to be together and it's great that you're discussing these issues beforehand. JUST WISHING YOU MUCH HAPPINESS. I also enjoy your discussion. Keep up the good work.

I have to agree! They totally made little sense. She's right in that aspect. I don't think he's too sensitive, as to say he's a gentleman to her. It takes two, she can't go around moody all day either because it's not healthy state of mind, especially emotionally. I'm a woman and I dare not allow -STUFF- to regulate my moods, to have him to be on sensitivity eggshells all day, no thanks. Don't lose yourself in her emotions, she have to work on herself too! She shouldn't lose herself either. Your curls are amazing. You guys seem to be good. It's not always about her and it's not always about him. She need to turn some stuff around, and him too.

Wow! I enjoyed the HECK out of this video! Half the time I was in stitches laughing, and other times I was in full Ajumma mode (shaking my head, sucking my teeth). 1 - Regarding finances - It never hurts to keep your own little personal "mad-money" on the side. It does not have to be a secret from each other, either. Kinda like not needing to share all your hobbies with one another. Consider checking what the laws are in Korea regarding community property and finances. 2 - Speaking to emotions - Becky, I was giving you 2 snaps up and a CIRCLE!! (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWWvY5-kiaeJa7s). Yes, Cedric - - sometimes men do have a tendency to try 'solve' perceived problems, when sometimes all a woman wants is to be heard and/or affirmed. Thank heavens Becky is teaching you!! 😋 3 - Cedric, I have ALWAYS liked your choice of hairstyles. Continue to ignore the haters. Becky - KUDOS to you for being so willing to defend Cedric's choice of hairdo. If you 2 are planning on having little ones, then start learning about Black hair NOW. One of the biggest areas of complaints from those of us in the middle-aged Black ladies peanut gallery group is when we see Black kids (mixed or not) with screwed up, unkempt hair. It is not just a matter of aesthetics; Black hair is not "tough" like many non-Black people seem to think that it is. And the scalp needs to be kept *MOISTERIZED* as well as clean. Because of the natural curl, we need to keep the scalp and hair hydrated so that the curls don't dry out, become brittle and damaged. With straight hair, there is a need to wash out excess oils; conversely, we need to retain oils/lubricants. I try to steer clear of stereotypes, but I have to admit it takes *ALL* my reserve to bite my tongue when I see a Black child with a head in dire need of attention. Adults - I could not care less about; that is their business. But in the community that I was brought up in, having a neat, styled head of hair on a child was a definite marker of how much care and attention your mother provided you. You are fortunate that you are living in Korea. Unlike where I grew up (Deep South, USA), I imagine that it is highly unlikely that anyone will say anything (directly) to you over there (... well I guess..?!?!) 4 - I almost got misty eyed when Cedric was talking about learning that he can trust you, Becky. So lovely. Likewise, Becky, when you related that Cedric non-judmentally suports and affirms you and your choices. You both are SOOOO lucky to have each other! 😍💖😍 5 - The Obamas - YAASSSSS!!! 6 - Absolutely right about not taking the relationship for granted. There is nothing better than that warm, comfortable feeling like a well worn-in pair of shoes when you have known and loved someone for a long time. Remember to always appreciate each other. Not just the big stuff, but the little things as well. You folks are gonna be just FINE! 😊💯😊

It's ok Becky! I also suck at math! Growing up, I had a math disability (still do) and I always thought that I was dumb, but it was something that I could not help and like you, when I get a math problem sometimes I just go blank, or sometimes I can get it really quickly. Anyway, don't feel bad about it.

@J Bob and L. Phipps - Come on, People! Becky is just wondering aloud. They are *totally* in love with each other, and - even better, in a way - they really like AND respect each other. Real love is not about the fairy dust in the eyes drivel of Disney World. When you can see another person in total, warts and all, and STILL conscienciously want to be with them for the rest of your life - now *THAT* is love! 😊

@@claudiawoods4382 Are you serious? Becky made the statement which cannot be taken back or explained away. That's all I have got to say on the topic.
@claudiawoods4382
@claudiawoods4382 3 жыл бұрын
@@l.phipps5478 - Yes, I am serious. Becky strikes me as a deeply caring and thoughtful person. Loving someone does not mean one develops tunnel vision and locks out the rest of the world. If Becky were seriously, sufficiently concerned that someone "better" might come along later on, my take on it is that she would *not* be engaged to Cedric. Of course, our observations as outsiders to their relationship mean nothing in the end. We can agree to disagree on what/how Becky meant her statements. Definitely, I am not looking to start a verbal fight about this. I fully acknowledge that you and I differently interpret Becky's words. Best to you.

I simply don’t trust she will not become his worst nightmare..when someone is truly in love those thoughts don’t come to mind… period!! Sorry … I was beginning to feel really good about her love for him but now I have my doubts again. …please don’t get legally tied it’s completely unnecessary and makes everything more difficult. I wish she was his forever love.😊

She’s got homeboys password🧐 she shouldn’t have said that there maybe somebody else that could sweep her off her feet. That was a bad seed planted no matter what type of relationship you have. Really bad energy there.

Also remember that Hollywood movies are central to propagating that idea in American culture (the love triangle). And you have to choose to be better than that. Just be true. Just respect and honor God. And everything will follow it's right path.

I honestly don’t mean to offend anyone but I’ve observed over the past few videos (go back and check) Becky has had several strange over the top reactions, voice raises, awkward body fidgeting, overly touchy, distractive glazed looks and twitches. I’ve noticed a similar behavior in friends of mine who are somewhat medicated or a little high. Of course it can be that she is just awkward in front of the camera but this is not how she was in the dozens of videos they’ve previously made. This is just something over the past few videos. She seems very unnatural. Just checking if she is ok. This pandemic has been very difficult on all of us.

I actually thought Becky looked more comfortable in this video. Some people have more energy than others. When they’re excited about something they’re talking about, it is expressed in their physical movements. To me Becky seemed to be more comfortable and letting loose on camera as opposed to someone who is scripted and responding in a monotonous tone.
