Two Years Living Alone in the Wilderness: Our Story of Learning from Nature

Two years ago, we began a journey to learn to live a life in perfect harmony with nature. A life caring for animals, growing food, creating, building and learning to live off the land. And in this time, nature has taught us more than we could have ever imagined. / motherthemountain
We spent our childhood growing up here in the mountains, exploring rainforests, caring for orphaned lambs, planting trees and harvesting fruit.
Living in harmony with the rhythms of nature has taught us so many things. It has taught us to be still and calm, to love, and to give more than we take. It has taught us to to care for the land and each other.
We live and farm on the land of the Arakwal and Minjungbal People of the Bundjalung Nation and these practices of regenerative living, agriculture and permaculture owe their roots and theories to Indigenous knowledge - they have been practiced by Indigenous People around the world for so many years. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Country we live on, and recognise their continuing connection to the land and waters. We thank them for protecting this rainforest and its ecosystems since time immemorial.

Hi Julia, Anastasia, and Mom, this is the most beautiful and heart-warming life story, I have ever seen! You talk to your animals as their mother, and they give you so much love back. It's so sad that your Dad isn't here to share the experience, but I'm sure he'll be watching with joy in his heart. The wonderful videos from your childhood, are so beautiful to watch, so many cherished moments, now frozen in time, to enjoy over and over, to remember the times with your Dad. The soft music playing in the background, is so beautiful, and Mom's beautiful photography and editing, to bring it all to us in 24 mins, is truly amazing. It's so sad to lose a pet, and lovely how the sheep rally around because they understand the grief. I lost my cat this morning. He was 19 years old and had kidney disease. I stayed all night by his side until he gave out his last breath. I was told to put him to sleep three days ago, but I wasn't ready to let him go just yet and wanted to keep him a little longer. Now I regret that decision, as it only made my cat suffer even longer. I was crying all day, thinking about all the things I could've done for him. Watching this video somehow made my heart at ease, and reminded me that I've been blessed for the past 19 years. Thank you, your connection to animals and nature is truly amazing.

Loved seeing the videos of when you were young, and the fact that you have listened to the Indigenous people in your area. We are so far away from Native American wisdom and practices in the US it's a tragedy. Animals are the best teachers and if I could have one wish come true, it would be that all people would be kind to them. Young people like you are the hope of the future. I've watched your journey since before you started youtube (the little nasturtium flower hats did it for me haha!). Now I have a medium allotment/garden to cultivate my food.
