The occult is very broad. It's not one thing or meaning. Occult comes from Latin meaning secret, conceal or hidden. dabbling in the occult doesn't necessarily mean demons or possession

I both agree & disagree with Ralph Sarchie's theory on the occult. Partaking in ANY spirit communication or spiritual practice opens doors. Or can be interpreted as an invitation if you don't SPECIFICALLY state INTENTION. Widespread belief will also influence these aspects like those surrounding Ouija boards. Say, you think you are communicating with a dead relative & never think or state that no other being is allowed to impersonate & interact with you, would a person know who or what they are actually communicating with? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the person. Instead of appealing to people's fears & saying don't partake in ANYTHING, I think more education should be done around intention & spiritual protection. These things are more well-known than 20 years ago, thankfully, but it's still not enough. There has been no one religion that has been proven correct, so I don't believe any one person can dictate what people should or shouldn't be doing in that regard (apart from outright evil things that harms self or others). It's just not realistic.
