Lu Cai, or Shangdong Cuisine, has a lot of history behind it, and is considered one of the most venerated cuisine families in China. It's well known for using simple ingredients such as salt and green scallions to create a unique deep umami taste, such as in Green Scallions Fried With Sea Cucumbers or Beef Tendon (you probably tasted it in your baozi already). They are also famous for anything made with wheat flour, such as noodles, steamed or baked bread, dumplings, baozi, pan-fried/baked stuffed flatbread (shao bing). Try their potatoes too. And large chunks of stewed meat of any kind. I think you two are gonna be quite at home in Shandong.

Yes. Lu Cai is very different from the more popular Sichuan cuisine. It’s usually not spicy but emphasizes on savory and umami flavors. I’m impressed you picked up the flavor profile on the first night 👍 Qingdao also has fresh and relatively cheap seafood. Sitting outside at night at an “dapaidang”eating seafood and drinking beer is a must. The beer festival also came from German tradition of Oktoberfest.

actually the food you eat it not dumplings, they are steamed stuffed buns, usually serving as breakfast in China, I think dumplings are on the right side of that menu. Qingdao is famous for mackerel dumplings, maybe you could try that. The sauce you dip is vinegar. Welcome back, miss you guys.

Dumpling is a broad term that includes everything that wraps fillings in bread crust. So steamed buns are also considered dumplings. The Chinese receptionist was referring to jiaozi, which is taught as dumplings in English textbooks. Next time we should teach them to use food names in pinyin.

17th September is the mid-autumn festival in Chinese calendar, and people will have a small holiday from 9.15-9.17, which means it will be so crowdy in every tourist spot. But it also means many delicious moon cake will be on sale soon. People celebrate Mid-autumn festival since Tang dynasty. On that day( 9.17), we will eat moon cake and admire the full moon toghther with our families, hang lanterns and guess lantern riddles and admire osmathus. There will be many mid-autumn events in most of the cities.

So happy to watch another China episode! I have collected some comments about Tsingtao( which means Green Island in Chinese) on Chinese internet, hope it will be helpful! Firstly, the average price of commodities in Tsingtao is higher than other city except for the four biggest city. Secondly, The climatic in Tsingtao is so comfortable, it has beautiful sea view, and the seafood(Qingdao prawn is a famous Chinese dish)& beer(kind of like the Munich of China) here is famous over China, all the factors makes Tsingtao ranking first in the list of most livable cities in China. What's more, Tsingtao is a clean, commercial tourist city, but which makes it difficult for tourist to find some street pedlar who really serves for locals. Sorry for my poor English, and hope you enjoy the trip! There are millions of Chinese netizens love you for the true and objective video style❣
