I’m no prodigy, but as someone a little older than Chloe, I find it kinda heartwarming that her mannerisms (like a sort of timidness or uncertainty?) kinda remind me of how I was at her age-she’s obviously very mature in many ways, but she’s still a teenage girl finding and growing into her place in the world, like I was. The way she talked about school was also super relatable (though I sucked at math and biology). I hope she gets some good rest after all those exams and performances!! And if i keep practicing, maybe someday in the far future I’ll be able to play like her lol

Chloe's approach to learning a new piece is illuminating. She invests time to analyse the score, compare recorded versions (thanks to KZbin), build a mental picture of the architecture and her own interpretation, transfer these insights into technical renderings (fingerings, articulations, expressions, and climaxes, which I am sure she marks on the score assiduously), and then practise with focus on her vision. Her excellent memory and growing technical prowess have equipped her with the facility to learn new pieces efficiently yet with musical depth. Thus, it is not a surprise that her playing is so consistent, deliberate, accurate, and given her innate good taste, always imbued with great understanding, forward momentum and originality. This is most evident in her solo performances: cadenzas, including Sauret's, and Ysaye's Ballade. Her further studies will expose her to the breadth of the repertoire. We look forward to her continued growth and exciting perfornances. Also, I believe she will make a great conductor in the future.

I really liked what Chloe said about the nuances that come with understanding Chinese culture, and with understanding the wider piece. I’ve listened to other recordings in the past, but I think no one captures the nuance and subtleties of Butterfly Lovers quite like Chloe.

I've been leisurely playing for the last 45 years or so .... When I was a mere Grade school kid , I foolishly thought I could become a world class violinist ..... Then I saw prodigies back in those days who were younger but basically decades ahead of me .... Discouraged I simply quit and changed my goals from being a soloist to perhaps auditioning for some of the most world renown orchestras.... I actually thought I was good enough to apply to some of the top conservatories here in US....Of course I got rejected to every one of them ... I did end up attending a pretty decent local State Uni and was accepted to join their School Orchestra......I was absolutely blown away (and intimidated) by how more than half those fellow musicians were far more talented and gifted than I was ......After graduating changed my major from Music theory to business (LOL) .... Put it this way .... only 3 top students from the school , whom I thought were God gift to symphony orchestra lovers eventually were good enough to join a decent local orchestra ..... I personally met some of the finest orchestra violinist , and most if not all I can say were born with a particular instinct for music that can't be explained and of course combined with passionate near obsessive commitment to learn and practice ...... Ms Chloe Chua I can say without a doubt is an absolute genius in this regards

As a University trained Jazz drummer, not anywhere as gifted as these three, Chloe described exactly how I approached jazz charts: I looked for the hardest parts first, then spent a day listening to a ton of performances. I would figure out commonalities between performances, then practice those interpretations with my style. I just love all of you. ❤❤❤❤

It’s “Kinderszenen,” or “ Scenes from Childhood.” Horowitz played it upon his return to Russia after decades away. A truly historic performance. By Schumann. A suite of pieces that includes “Von Fremden Landen and Menschen” (Of Foreign Lands and Peoples” and “Traumerei” (Dreaming). I’m sure it’s on KZbin somewhere. I hope Chloe finds a great keyboard player and does the Bach Sonatas. They’re magnificent pieces.

Am pretty sure Brett was spot on about Chloe "making it up" on some interview questions...she has no problem playing the notes, probably from day one. Upbow staccato may have taken her six months to master but by the time she came to the Paganini concerto, it was no problema. Still is mindblowing to realize how well she can channel her talent and skill into her performances and that that album was done when she was 16. Chloe Sensei has had wonderful teachers and mentors.

When Chloe talked about listening to an older version of the Sauret cadenza as part of her prep, had to smile because I listened to Philippe Hirschhorn's performance at the 1967 Queen Elisabeth Competition in which he won first place, with Gidon Kremer, coming in third, much to Gidon's utter disappointment. Perhaps Chloe listened to Philippe's performance as well--it was amazing. To me the 1967 competition was memorable not so much for the excellent participants but for the judges, who included Yehudi Menuhin, David Oistrakh and Arthur Grumiaux. All three violin greats were friends, but Oistrakh and Grumiaux seemed to have a special relationship--both splendid musicians who apparently shared their music with each other. Hope Chloe will be able to develop similar relationships whether with other violinists or instrumentalists or with musicians who specialize in other types of music. Her horizons can only be broadened in that process and we will be the beneficiaries.

Me, a Double Bassist and Violist says Chloe is a legend. Paganini in less than a month, look… I always felt like Violin concertos are so hard because just the Violin with how close the notes are makes the concertos really hard because of how fast the piece is and as a Double Bassist especially, we stretch our fingers a lot, so it like what in the world with these Violin concerts, but… Paganini in less than a month, geez.
