Coming from a cellist, Violists are underrated! The instrument is a great balance between Cello and Violin, and when given the opportunity, Violists can perform amazing solos.
@tak-el-uc

The viola has a beautiful tone. If I had to listen to an unaccompanied string instrument it would be a close call between the viola and the cello. IMO the violin requires, at the bare minimum, a quartet to support it and really let it shine. I would compare the viola to a candle and the cello to a campfire, while the violin is a firework.
@MateHegyhati
@MateHegyhati Жыл бұрын
For me (not a cellist, just learned for a few years) viola seems like the perfect middle ground. Not a cello, but still not as high as a violin, and so much easier to carry than a cello (not to mention double bass) 😀

Thank you for getting it off my chest, especially when you talked about the balance between the bass and melody. I don't like listening to very high notes that reach beyond some skyscrapers (cough cough Paganini) (I'm a self-taught teenage guitarist, so the viola kind of reminds me of a guitar. It's high enough to make a good expression of melody and low enough to fill the atmosphere )

I get that it's a bit, but sometimes it feels like it crosses over to being mean. I remember one viola teacher who had a student who loved the viola... until she started watching TwoSet, and felt really bad about herself. That's the reality. "Just a joke, bro!" is all fine and well, but I get a bit uncomfortable thinking about the young musicians who have to develop a tough skin for the abuse. Why should they have to? I would be happy if they just let it go and stopped the bullying. Bullying is still bullying, even if it's "just a joke".
@CougheePls
@CougheePls Жыл бұрын
@@cuthbertallgood7781 but still, at the end of the day, it all comes down to what you think is a joke, and what you think is bullying. Because as cliche as it sounds, it's the truth that humour is subjective, and no matter how light and harmless you make a joke, you always risk upsetting someone. From what I've watched of TwoSet, I get their humour is one that pokes fun of others, whether it be rap, kpop, film music, viola, etc. Whether you take it as a joke or as a form of bullying is entirely up to you.

As a violist I’m so proud. She sounded phenomenal and I’m glad they picked a violist despite them constantly roasting us 😂😂 I was a baroque viola player in school. I think baroque sounds so good on viola if you play it right.

In all the piano competitions I've done I feel like the feedback is definitely my favorite part. Sometimes they feel totally different about my strengths than I thought and it was always fascinating imo to hear a completely new interpretation of my playing (not me or my teacher for once). One time a judge told me they loved my musicality in a piece when in my head I felt I didn't succeed in expressing it much. Getting out of your own head is so cool!

Even in my small local piano recital contest, with dozens of other competitors, I was amazed to get the Adjudicator's notes of "Tough day for you , I would have liked to have heard you at your best on this". How an adjudicator can remember a singular player and style baffles me. Even with only 7 players, you showed how difficult the task of adjudicating can be for music. Kudos for being insightful, deliberating, and professional in your field. With love from Canuckia! aka Canada :)

That was great insight into how the pressures that competitions create actually lead to better playing. I tend to bow out of the recitals and competitions as my stage fright is over whelming. Now, maybe I change my mindset, into the positive: that the pressure will not kill me but make me stronger. Thank you. !!

This was awesome! I am sure you were stressed, but what an honor for you, to be asked to come back to your university, and adjudicate. It definitely gives you a legitimacy that you may or may not need in your lives, but definitely appreciates you, and all of your hard work. Congratulations!

Very fun to watch! Have judged quite a few competitions now, especially kids competitions when there is 300+ pieces and such… those are hard, definitely have clapped once between movements and then hid haha. Now working at the university i studied at and it is definitely still the most terrifying stage!

That's awesome stepping outside your comfort zone is rewarding and fun but can be a little nerve wracking but once you get the hang of it it's really not that bad. Awesome seeing you guys having fun with it and being professional at the same time. Even better having photos taken with everyone to give them great memories of meeting KZbin legends such as yourselves. Keep up the awesome work. Love that I was able to witness yet another milestone.

Excellent video. The competitors performed extremely well. Adjudication is very challenging. Marking right and wrong answers on tests and exams isn't - it can be tiring and boring though. Marking lengthy essays from university students is also a challenge but a) you can refer back to written pieces but in performances you can't and b) you don't need to rank but simply put essays in a grade band. Well done everyone involved!

@@susanbryant6516 they do, but they’re still symphonies. I played Tam Tam so second movement, which we were doing, has like 17 minutes rest at the start before I come in, at the time they were rehearsing just the start and ended rehearsal 2 bars before we came in, so it was an hour of me doing nothing.
