I went to Singapore years ago (1989) and the chinese friend i was with (i am french) ask me if i wanted to try it. We were on a small market and i could smell it pretty hard. She said that I had to pass the smell and that it taste really goodl, so I thought to some very strong and smelly cheeses we have in France that can be quite soft at taste so I said OK. The vendor prepared it for us (we ate outside at his stall) and honestly i enjoyed it. The taste is really peculiar, in my souvenirs I remember a creamy sensation and i could not compare it with any other fruit I know. It was an "interesting" experiment 😁. After all the durian is called King 🤴 of the Fruit, there must be a reason.

That fruit are strangely fragile in term of storage and specific time to eat. just missed it a bit, and it'll taste super bland or very acidic, almost like rotten food. And ofc a lot of horror story around it just gives false pretense before people tried it

Protip with durian: Freeze it. It will help mitigate the pungency (cold things don't spread their "fragrance" as quickly). Flavor and texture profile is similar to a very creamy ice cream. It doesn't taste anything like it smells. I didn't like durian much when I was a kid and still don't often eat it, but frozen durian is pretty good.
