Hey two toes . Maybe they used the can for some kind of game. Maybe throw pine cones or something at it.
@48thstateprospectingКүн бұрын
That’s a bummer on the clay pipe that would have been a sweet relic (although I reckon super glue might fix it) no bottles but plenty of gold and interesting metal that’s a good question on the can thing definitely odd to have legs on it maybe for a candle protector? Who knows lol great adventure thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼

Looks like a nice spot to dig, regardless. Odd about that cut up can. You did good on the gold, too! I can show you a bottle dump next spring if you like. Tons of wine bottle bits, and I found an 1850's Bondy Bros. belt buckle there as well. I guess neither of us need to worry about riding the knucklehead home, but have a great holiday with the family!

Morning !! Wonder if they are opening the can like that to make a DIY coal stove, the flaps could support a pan or pot to cook on?
@landofsaguaros833016 сағат бұрын
Hi Gary. I was thinking maybe they had those cans with a sack tied over where they made those feet so it would be easier for them to toss different materials into each sack. Just a guess but it was my first guess after you mentioned the different color scheme. You're the King Gary.

Possibly that can was used as a riser under an oil lamp on a table to get the light spread out a little more? Definitely looks like they made feet on the one end though.

one idea for the can was it was used to place around something potentially flammable to safe guard it. like chair legs or something else. doesnt exactly explain why they'd bend it instead of just cutting the bottom off like they did the top. just remember my grandfather had something similarly rigged up. another option was for candle reflection. put a candle inside of it and the metal sides would help illuminate an area

Painted can mystery is intriguing. Seems to me that there probably wasn’t a bunch of free paint laying around in the high country for creative projects so must have been a reason. Hopefully they weren’t honeypots 😉

Back in the 1980’s at a Boy Scout campout, a ‘mountain man’ in his 70’s, showed us how to make a mini wood stove for cooking by cutting a big bean can like the one you found. The bent tabs on the bottom stabilize it and keep an air-gap at the bottom to keep the fire inside blazing. He also fashioned a small fork and spoon out of the detached can lid. 🤯
