If you're going to use the same bike for 3 summers, you might want to consider cutting the handlebars as narrow as possible in the first year and then swapping them out for wider the next year. Another point of adjustment that people often forget about is the headset spacers. The steerer tube on the Jett is longer so there is much more room to change the stack height.

Great points. Due to the strong rise of the handlebars, there isn't a significant amount of space you could cut to narrow the handlebars, but you could. This would of course require you to purchase new grips, which isn't pricey, but the whole process isn't ideal for most families. For the stack height, absolutely! We usually highlight this as a point of adjustment as well, but upon talking to Specialized, they were concerned that parents unfamiliar with bikes might not properly reattach the handlebars afterwards. As a result, they asked us not to point it out, but they (and us as well) 100% agree that it is another point of adjustment if done properly.

What would be the recommendation amongst specialized jett 16, guardian 16, and priority start 16. sub $300 as specialized is at $200

You might find our more updated written article helpful. www.twowheelingtots.com/best-kids-16-inch-bikes/ We have not tested the 16 inch size of the Jett so we can’t personally speak to that bike, but have been very impressed with the Jett line overall (we’ve tested the 20” and 24”). Between the Guardian and Priority, the Priority is a few pounds lighter, which will be helpful for a young child… While the Guardian has its proprietary SureStop brakes. If you have a strong, confident rider, those extra few pounds will be less important.

Agree with everything she said except the shifters. The high speed shifter lever is somewhat hidden under the grip and is quite difficult to locate easily with the thumb. Ergonomically it is not up to the standard I have come to expect from Specialized. That being said I think if the mechanism is twisted forward about a centimeter it may be easier to use easily. Otherwise I agree it is an awesome bike for kids.

Did you adjust the trigger shifter position to see if it helped?

Can you put training wheels

The single-speed versions of the Jett are compatible with training wheels, so the 16” and the 20” single speed.
