I like that you can distinguish both Iam's and Braddah Iz. Both can sing in that level, but they are both on a different plain. Iz is a legend of modern Hawaiian Island music and helped pave the way to the island music we hear today. Iam is on his way to create a new path that could lead to new possibilities. Whichever way he decides to take his musical path, he will definitely open pandoras box and open eyes for everyone.

In the video of Iz singing and toward the end of his singing where all the people were in the water...was at Iz's send off (celebration of life) dumping the ashes in the water and everyone joking in the celebration of life was heart touching. My wife and i are huge IZ fans. Every time I hear Iam sing I think of IZ. Two soft angelic voices that I love and could listen to all day. I hope Iam will sing one of IZ's songs in the competition. Something like White Sandy Beach or one of the other ones he sang so beautifully.

Both of these singers touch my soul so deeply. I can't ever hear Iz's rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow without tears. Iam's music does the same to me. It's more than the music & artistry....it's because everything about each one is PURE. Iam does not need the flash, the lights, the costumes, the "show", he doesn't have to scream out top notes (most artistsare so undistinguishable)....the simplicity of Iam's voice, instrument & heart is just so pure. This is why the world is falling head over heels in love with him. Pure simplicity that wrecks your heart.❤️

Iʻm glad youʻve discovered Bruddah IZ (Israel Kamakawiwoʻole) - He is a beloved legend in Hawaiʻi, and his "Over The Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World" were at the top of the World Music charts for YEARS. "Over the Rainbow" was played on the finale of the TV series ER, and the movies "Meet Joe Black" and "50 First Dates." He used to perform in the very popular Hawaiian group, The Mākaha Sons of Niʻihau, before going on his own. He died in 1997 at the age of 38 from health issues related to obesity, and he was given the rare honor of lying in state in our capitol building for thousands of mourners to pay their respects. In this video, you can see the Hawaiian-style "send-off" as his ashes are scattered in the ocean. The Mākaha Sons and IZ sang many beautiful Hawaiian songs and IZ also sang reggae, rock, and pop, but one of my favorite songs by the Mākaha Sons is their classic "Mehameha/White Sandy Beach" with their great harmonies, and IZ did it alone with just his ʻukulele (which he was very good at playing). Iz Kamakawiwo 'ole will always have my heart. I was very saddened when he passed due to health complications. And now, out of nowhere comes Iam Tongi!! It's like being given a second chance to feel that love again. It's so overwhelming that i cry when I hear IAM sing!! I prayed that he would choose this song to sing on Idol and he killed it!! Maybe now we can all start to heal through Iam's music, it's been a long time coming.

Iz’s rendition is true to his island upbringing! It does not add elements from other cultures. Iam , in contrast, is a mixture of jazz, blues, gospel, and island music-showing that he has had more of a multicultural experience than Iz has. Both singing styles are beautiful in their own unique ways.

Both videos are magical and wonderful in their own unique way. I lost my mother in March of last year and her favorite movie was The wizard of oz. She loved the version of somewhere over the rainbow and sang it to me and my siblings many times growing up. Many years later, watching 50 first dates, IZ changed her mind and she loved his rendition even more. She missed out on Iam, but I'll have to say she would have loved his style of singing and his overwhelming love for his mom and dad and family. Iam sang the song his way and it's amazing and I'm looking forward to a full version.

😢😢😢not only is this my favorite song, but when I heard Iz sing it, I fell in love with such a beautiful person with a spirit that draws you in!! Then comes Iam Tongi. I fell in love with him so fast and so hard simply because it was like listening to Iz sing. I was praying that Iam would sing this song. And when he did, I couldn't stop listening to him and watching him! I am so in love with Iam, I am drawn to him, it's like I need to be in his presence. But I guess a lot of us are. I can't explain how he exudes something so spiritual that just feels so good!! I was praying he would win, because the world has been waiting for something so magical and healing that it just needed to be.

Iz had such a hauntingly exquisite and beautiful voice. When I heard him sing that song for the first time, I was mesmerized by it’s beauty. When Iz passed away, I thought no one would ever do justice to that song again. Iam Tongi is on his way and I believe he will continue to grow into his voice and find himself as awesome a singer as Iz was.

Shout out from Maui, loved Bruddah Iz from the first time I heard him on the radio decades ago! My now deceased fathers absolute favorite, over the rainbow, we played at his service. Shoots, this new kid from Kahuku, so far, is da kine & seems equally as special. You still have to learn how to use his voice to his true ability, but he's ridiculously talented and notice how to pull on the heartstrings. Regardless of what happens on American Idol, he's going to be hugely popular here in the islands from this point forward. I hope he and his family find a way to get back "HOME" to Paradise! Keep it going Bruddah Iam!

I was going to say also, Iam has his own distinctive sound. They both got a soothing voice but I really like Iam a little better with his velvet, raspiness. I can see with each performance he's improving with confidence. I hope his performance in Hawaii set him on his journey to super star.
