This guy's walking down a street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep, he can't get out. A doctor passes by, and the guy shouts up, "Hey you, can you help me out?" The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a priest comes along, and the guy shouts up "Father, I'm down in this hole, can you help me out?" The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a friend walks by. "Hey Joe, it's me, can you help me out?" And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, "Are you stupid? Now we're both down here." The friend says, "Yeah, but I've been down here before, and I know the way out."

Tried to memorize this marvelous piece, Words fail me on John Spencer. Try to see his Emmy ward. The love the cast has for him and vica versa. The award he said was beautfully obsolete. The best modern series that has come out of the US. Aaron Sorkin is a genius. Actually made me interested in US politics, a miracle in itself. John however was terrible :) at the walk and talk. His unique shambling walk could not keep up with Flamingo (aka Big Bird). With Margaret it was a comedy duo. If Martin Sheen was the father figure of the series John was the wise grandfather.

Leo was my man, I remember at where I was when they announced that John Spencer had passed away. I remember my daughter looking at me and Looking strangely at me because I had tears running down my face. He was the best part of the West Wing for me. Yes I love Martin Sheen and I do to this day. But his connection with Leo was one of the smartest and genuine friendships that was ever shown on television.

They don't show it here, but the moment Leo takes the framed napkin and starts *crying* - that's easily among the most powerful moments of the series for me.
@shelleyking8450 Жыл бұрын
The intense emotion between Josiah and Leo was more real than real life. The napkin, and John's reverence for it, sums up what they, and the show, were all about. Dedication. Devotion to team, friends, purpose. Truly the best written, cast and acted show there ever was. RIP, John Spencer.

The Leo moment I LOVE and cry over is the joke story he tells Josh.."A guy fell down a hole....., it ends with "Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out." "As long as I've got a job, you've got a job.".. Where are solid friends like that today?

Thank you so much for this. I miss Leo so much-and John Spencer had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. He was taken from us way too soon, and the world is colder for his absence. He gave of himself without asking, just like his roses.

There's been only two celebrities in my life where, when I learned of their death, I just full on started crying my eyes out right then and there. John Spencer was one and was definitely the worst, then it winds up being only a couple months later we as fans have to watch the funeral for the Leo character, and during that whole thing I was right back into total blubber mode. (btw, Greg Giraldo was the other one, he was my favorite stand up comic, and while I legit cried it wasn't as intense as with Spencer)

I'm re-watching the West Wing, I think for the first time since it originally aired. I loved John Spencer then, and even more now. I love the anecdote from Aaron Sorkin that when they were casting the show, he told the casting director that for Leo they should try to get someone like John Spencer. The casting director says "What about John Spencer?" Sorkin though he wouldn't do it (not sure why; he wasn't THAT busy), but of course he did. What a great actor, and what a tragedy that he died so young.

What a dear and brilliant force John Spencer was in one of the all-time greatest shows ever put on the television screen. Each and every year I watch the entire "run" of the show, and never tire of its earliest years. The West Wing has a special place in my heart, as does the dream of Martin Sheen becoming our actual President. :O)

Sorry, it was too long ago. I think they were taken from box sets of the series that I found by using BitTorrent trackers (Demonoid and/or The Pirate Bay).
