I have had very similar results with all the testing I've done. I am mid 160s ballspeed and the M3 did not outperform my R1 on distance, only slightly on mishits. M5 was very similar and maybe just a touch less draw but boy I did not care for the sound, feel, or looks. After 10 years with TM drivers and Callaway fairway woods, I made the switch to all Cobra woods! So OEMs should give you guys anything you want as you inspire us to try things we may not otherwise. Not to mention if you can help Cut sell out of golf balls that most have never heard of, you are obviously influential! Keep up the good work, we appreciate the knowledge even when Matty isn't 100%.

I got a used M1 tensei red at golftown for 180. Cracked the head within a month. They gave me an M3! Within 8 months, due to 50+ range balls on driver alone daily during the winter, cracked that. They gave me an M5! Sweet deal! M5 is a hotter head, especially low in the face, in my opinion. All shafts being equal.

This is content I value, thanks. I tried Taylormade M4/M3, Cobra F8, Ping G400 range, Titleist 917 last year as this was the on-sale range that could be fitted. Seeing the performance and reading up on the relative CG locations, I ended up buying a great condition 1 year old 2017 M1 because (1) my flight was similar to M4 (2) 40% the price of on sale clubs.

That's a good shout. You've got to take into account budget. Obviously it's fun to see the latest and greatest gear but the average weekend warrior golfer can't afford and frankly doesn't need the newest gear. It's like you said, it's really valuable information when considering what gear to get.

I lost about 12 yards switching from 2016 M1 to M3 with same shaft. Head weight seemed lighter with M3, I hit more fairways but, lost yards and club felt dead. I picked yards back up with M5...Sounds better as easy to hit as M3 and have gained yards over both previous drivers.

I bought the M3 D, 3W, 5W from Globalgolf.com @05/20 for $250....and with discounts including M1 trade-in, I paid about$100 out of pocket for the driver and $50 each for the 3W + 5W out of pocket. The Taylormade Demo tent showed-up at my club 06/30 and I hit the M5. I don't see any benefit in the M5 when it retails at $550. I have played the M3 for 5 months now and it's still in the bag. I am happy. You can pay BIG $$$ if you want. I have a great driver + Steaks + Beer and spare change too. LOL.

So you call it speed foam, isn’t it really anti speed foam? The way I understand it is they add the foam to bring the excessively hot face back down into compliance, hence slowing it down, not speeding it up. But I guess speed foam sounds better than slow foam when selling drivers.

With the rules set by the R&A and USGA on clubhead performance there is nothing to gain by buying new clubs except for some cosmetic changes one may or may not like. Performance wise, all manufacturers have long reached the maximum allowed specs. Only thing remaining is to get your cubs fit, get yourself fit and get lessons. Rest is, unless you always want the newest gear, money down the drain.
@bbslimecity42445 жыл бұрын
Nico Mol, is this rule applicable to drivers and wedges only? Or irons too?
@nicomol48825 жыл бұрын
@@bbslimecity4244 this is for every club in the bag. Yes there's a difference between the different models, therefore you must get properly fit. But performance within these differences are all maxed out. So if you find the right sort of club for you, it then comes down to looks. And lessons😃 Of course after a lot of use you get the occasional wear and tear, which might merrit a new purchase. My clubs however close to ten years old, still perform as advertised.
@TooGoodMann5 жыл бұрын
Is this something you can discuss with your fitter? Like if I'm in and say, getting fit for a Epic Flash, is it acceptable to ask "how does this match up against last year's Rogue" and have that back and forth? Hard to justify buying the 700 dollar option when the 400 dollar option is only minutely worse.
@chriswalt55 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I'm a fitter and we actually have all the demo clubs for previous years models in every brand. Not everyone will but they should at least be able to tell you the difference.

When you say quality launch monitor with quality ball. Is it good enough to use a trackman on the range with range balls but set it to "premium ball" on the trackman settings?
@djjazzyjeff12325 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent question. I would suspect that there's no replacement for the full-fat real deal balls that you're going to actually be using so if at all possible, best use a simulator like they do is the best option. But then again, it's all relative, so if you use range balls, and then only compare your range ball data to other range ball data, the same trends should be true with premium balls on the golf course.
@martyfarrell94594 жыл бұрын
Why keep it 2 just years apart? I just bought a mint M1 2017 430, would love to see M1, M12017, M2, M22017 and so on right up to M6 and Sim comparisons. Give the poor boys a fair comparison| Sell the fittings, not the latest and most expensive since fittings are the most important expense when purchasing!
@seanplaisted26225 жыл бұрын
How often do you take shots out of the data? 2nd swing with the M5 at 9:10 you see the ball go by the trace from a previous shot that was a low hook. I imagine that wasn’t included in the final numbers so just curious how often that occurs and when you’d not include a shot in the data set.
@clubchampionmedia5 жыл бұрын
A few times per test, depending on the day. Any very poor swing or strike that is purely human error is taken out as it isn't representative of the club performance.

Hey, I recently purchased an taylormade m3 driver.. I love the feel and the look of the driver.. but the adjustable weights kind of put me off.. I would rather just change the flight of the ball by changing my swing like I do with my irons.. I was wondering wether i could maybe get three slightly lighter weights.. the three weights added up would still weigh the same but instead I put them like this :>-•- to create a more neutral weighted driver.. if this is impossible then I was thinking about selling it and pruchasing either a titleist 917 d3 or the newer version (gold version) of the taylormade m2..
@JAG00718774 жыл бұрын
The weights don't really do hell of a lot. Putting it into fade will not stop a snap hook if your swing is off.

I ended up upgrading my M3 shaft from an Atmos Tour Spec Black 6S from my last years fitting to a TPT 16-MKP-MT-SW in my fitting at Club Champion last month because I was getting better numbers than any combo with M5, even the same TPT shaft. However, on vacation in Hawaii last week I had to rent clubs and ended up driving the ball better than ever with M5 and the stock Tensei Orange shaft. Very confusing but I’ll keep testing with both on a launch monitor and in the real world over a few rounds at Bandon next week. I will say I disagree with the comment about sound being the same though. I think the M5 sounds much better than the M3, especially on off center strikes. The sound on some off center strikes with my M3 on the range make me cringe and have PTSD flashbacks to hearing people hit that square Nike driver. 😖
