Went to your parent and was looking to re-shaft P790's... but had been a Ping fan for years, Eye2 days... Found shaft that was good on distance for P790 but dispersion was left and right, and then said let's hit the i230.... The dispersion was off the charts and night and day. Not much distance loss, and felt great. OTi 105s shafts for me. On order now.... 🙂

I got fitted for these.. off a 10hc. The consistency and miss hits on these were so good. I tested all Mizuno and Titleist and I didn't want ping. But now ping i230 and 430 woods. Can't compete. These dominated in the testing and fitting I did. .... Yes you might be one club up as lofts are weaker... But spin is up so I'm holding greens way better now. These will definitely get me to under 10 now I think. Mates on a 18 also was smoking these nicely.

I would recommend going into your local pro shop and hitting these. I just did yesterday and was impressed with how consistently the strikes were and how the shots felt "soft" in a very good way. The GC Quad #s/flights/trajectories were very consistent. I am currently playing the Cobra Forged Tec irons with NS Pro Modus 105 shafts which replaced my beloved set of Callway MB (18) irons with same shaft (still have them). From a feel stand point, the i230 was very close to the MBs and definitely better than the Cobra FT. I did not notice any distance difference between the i230 and Cobra FT, which is not surprising to me because I do not generate a great deal of swing speed to really appreciate the distance gains. I'm happy enough to plink drives 250 and hit irons precisely where I'm aiming. I'm playing to a 6.9. Hope this helps anyone. For what it's worth, I ordered the Ping i230s yesterday after hitting them. They felt that good.

I thought I would be intimidated by the 230s, but they actually gave me confidence the look, the sound and the feel was amazing. The fitter was impressed at how well I hit them and for me it was love at first strike; ordered them immediately. I know it's not the focus of the video, but your comments about the Ping HydroPearl technology are making me wonder how it compares to the Mizuno HydroFlow microgroove technology. I recall in your review of the T22 wedges you were extremely impressed by their ability to retain near-identical performance either wet or dry. I'd love a comparison video between these two, as they often get mentioned in the context of wet environments.
@michaelmcdonald40842 жыл бұрын
I’ve never tried the Ping wedges but I have my doubts on affect of surface coatings, at least long term. I carry 4 wedges; T22 @ 48 & 61, Miura @56 and Bettinardi @ 52. All wedges are less than 2 years old, the T22 48 is the newest. I can spin all sufficiently to backup my Tour B XS on green but I’d say in terms of spin in dry it’s a tie between Bettinardi and Mizuno, Miura SW is least spin off clean fairway lie, it’s also highest bounce. I sand I’m primarily using Miura, wet or dry unless it’s more than 40’ or extraordinarily firm sand. In wet, the T22 is outstanding I wouldn’t say it’s more or less spin than dry but greens are of course softer thus not as difficult to limit runout. That said, the Bettinardi I honestly rarely use in wet as it get too spinny on soft, wet greens. I literally had one a couple weeks ago land pin high only to have it one hop and spin back so hard it went into front creek water hazard. The Bettinardi is a milled face thus its “microgrooves”, while not parallel to scoring grooves, are far more plentiful than the T22 microgrooves which results in improved dispersion of surface water on ball & face. It’s hard to imagine any wedge face offering better wet spin rate than the Bettinardi but sometimes that not necessarily desirable

The i230s were very consistent in yardages and launched a little higher than the i525s. Curious to see something like this vs a T100S/T100 as they are both going to be some of the more popular on tour
@michaelmcdonald40842 жыл бұрын
Do tour players actually game T100? I see majority of Titleist sponsor player using 620MB or an older model like 690MB. I think a few may use T100 long iron in blended set but I can’t recall seeing any player on PGA Tour using a T100. Again, that’s just my recollection. With Ping it’s a different animal as this is about as tour level as they get. I’ve actually wondered if some players signed by Ping may actually use a ‘fake’ Ping iron which for example could look exactly like this i230 but are in fact a forging without the heel and toe tungsten inserts 🤷♂️

Blades 6-PW, then move to 4&5 hybrid. Bit of a gap between 5H & 6i which I am looking to close up. Used to play HMB but got too many knuckle balls so went back to blades. Thinking the i230 might work well with a bit more forgiveness, some more distance while maintaining consistency. I tested them on a GC Quod the other day. Very solid, felt great and they do go further than the MP’s, higher ball flight without spin dropping off too much.

I'm about a 10 hdcp unofficially, 90mph and 7 down with 7iron. I deloft a loft, so I need the uncommon combination of forgiving sole (i.e. wide-ish, or with a lot of bounce) plus higher spin. ZX5/7 and MP225 have been some irons I've really enjoyed, but they both just spin way too low for me. Seeing that these i230 soles are cambered, with rounded leading edge, and seeing that they retain spin well has me super excited to try them.

I have played i210 for the past three seasons. They are in the “from my cold dead hands” category as far as me giving them up…but these i230s look sweet, except for two things: 1) the gap on the back badge looks terrible and 2) one thing to drive me to change irons would be to move to graphite shafts due to elbow issues, but Ping has very limited options. With the price of these, I may just re-shaft my i210s. Coming from the G series and other juiced-up irons, the shocking thing for me with the i210s at first was the consistency of distance. Hitting off-center or thin shots and walking up to the green to find yourself pin high is a treat.
