Still kind of disappointed that the ST-Z 220 hasn't been getting more love on the channel. It's all Cobra this, TaylorMade that, but it's astonishing that the followup to last year's bracket winner isn't getting more attention. Especially from a channel that has as good of a relationship with Mizuno (and Vosh!) as this one. Every review online, from both reviewers and average users, is overwhelmingly positive in terms of straightness, dispersion, and forgiveness. And it's $200 cheaper than the Stealth (and the same price as the Tour Edge). For a video titled "2022 BEST VALUE DRIVERS", I really would have expected to see the ST-Z 220 featured prominently.

I found the STZ-220 to spin a bit too much and as a result I lost significant distance. Curious to know what the hell was going on I stumbled upon one of 'Mizuno's' own video's previewing and testing the STZ-230 with one of their touring professionals. In Mizuno's own video, he also commented that the STZ-220 spun too much and how that was a recognised fact. He was then super pleased in comparison that the Mizuno seemed to have addressed this 'known issue' with the STZ-230. For me this confirmed what I had found to be exactly the same as what Mizuno were now also admitting. So.....yes it's cheaper than many others tested but sadly it's a few steps behind them in performance, and Mizuno kind of know that themselves also.

got the e722 driver 2 weeks ago. took time to get a shaft position that was right for me. now able to shape shots as needed. the distance, feel and sound are incredible. Also liked the c522 irons feel better than the 722s. High performance product. I got to demo them in south padre island CC. listening to your analysis makes me want to get a swing analysis to dial it in even more. Great video, thanks!

Thanks for this review, it came in very handy here in October 2023 as I was looking for a driver for my 50 year old son who wants to get back into golf after a few years not playing. I was considering steep discounts available on demo drivers from prior years at the PGA Superstore where I am a member. I looked at a Mizuno STX 10.5 with their stock Aldila Ascent Red 50 regular flex shaft for $99, and a Srixon ZX5 9.5 degree with an Evenflow Riptide 60 stiff shaft for just $80 (!!!). Put both on hold to try them. Didn't like the Aldila shaft, and in fact I cannot find a single review video of the STX or STZ using that shaft. Many gave the STX and STZ good marks, but no one used the Aldila shaft, and in fact there are no KZbin reviews of that shaft. The Srixon was just a bit too stiff and the 9.5 degree loft too low. I prefer a 10.5 and think he will also need that. So I released the hold. However, I also found a Tour Edge Exotics C722 demo with the stock Fujikura Ventus Red 58 gram regular flex shaft (the T4 version, not the Velocore one) also for $99. I had never tried any Tour Edge clubs before, had the usual bias they face, and wasn't sure about it after trying it in one of their practice bays with launch monitors. But one of the studio fitters told me it was an excellent club and shaft, and I hit it better in a second tryout. Then after watching several review videos including yours, I bought it and also with your results in mind switched the weights to put the heavy one in back. Then last Thursday took it out on the course instead of my usual Callaway GBB Epic Sub Zero 10.5 driver with a Graphite Design 54 gram Tour AD IZ5 R1 flex shaft. On the first tee I hit one of the best drives I can remember, dead straight, perfect trajectory, long, in the center of the fairway. It continued to perform like that all day. I also found it seems to have useful bulge and roll that will bring a hit toward the heel back into the fairway with a gentle fade. I mean, it was so good I am thinking about keeping it for myself and giving my son the Callaway. Am now sold on Tour Edge quality and performance. Thanks again for your review.

I've been playing the original Exotics driver since I bought it back in ~2010 and I'm amazed the clubs haven't become more popular. I stopped following the industry while in college/getting started in life and I thought there might have been a drop in quality but everything I see they still perform well.

Right now, I'm a beginner. If and when the day comes that I can get fitted, or am able to buy a new driver, the Tour Edges will probably my first choice to look at. Many reviews on KZbin seem to give these clubs high marks.

Got fitted yesterday (I currently have a Cobra King F9 driver) and wanted to see if I had the optimal shaft configuration for my slower swing speed. I am inconsistent with squaring up the Cobra head. So the guy conducting the fitting had me try some different head and shaft combinations. Finally, he brought out the C722 with a different shaft. What a difference! Carry and distance was better but, more importantly, my grouping was so much more consistent. I actually had the confidence that each time I swung the club I was going to make good contact and get a reasonably good result. I am now going to sell the Cobra and get the Tour Edge. It was that much better for me. And the price was certainly more favorable as well.

Great video, but also didn’t feel like a fair shake. When you did these videos in the past, the “budget” club has been fitted to the same specs as the gamer. I’ve also seen you switch balls to give certain clubs better flight/launch conditions. Tbh just makes the 722 more impressive!

For this test we wanted to compare the 722 Drivers in their stock form, and as you mention it goes to show just how well they perform since the only tweaks we made was to the hosel setting.

I’ve only ever owned 2 3woods that I could say I loved. One was a Tour Edge and the other a TM. TM has been in the bag for over 5 years now but to be honest the only reason it ever got the chance was because I gained a lot of speed and a new shaft for the Tour Edge would’ve cost more than the club was worth. At least that was my excuse that I used to justify buying the TM which worked out wonderfully as well.

OK honest question: Would Mikey or the average golfer (with an ave 100mph swing speed) ever play a Tour Edge? My guess is ego would prevent it. It's a little silly to see the latest hyped gear in the hands of a player that gets 250-270 off the tee. At nearly 1/2 price and the same outcome, doesn't it make more sense? One of my playing friends fits this profile exactly. Latest gear, ProV1, etc. Another playing partner plays a 15yr old set. He's 300 carry, 15 strokes lower and humble.
@TheMuffs20042 жыл бұрын
I was seriously impressed with the C722 and it was going to replace my Maverick Sub Zero with it, that is until I hit the new Triple Diamond LS. Still the best driver for the price hands down and if I didn’t want to spend the extra cash on the Callaway I wouldn’t hesitate to game the C722. The reason the Callaway won out for my was that, for me, the extra fade bias of the Callaway allowed me to draw the ball with no fear of over cooking it.

Great testing and very informative. Question about adjustable hosel drivers. When adjusting loft, how much true impact is there on face angle? Can it be mitigated by address, setup, or grip? Can we just hold the club more open/closed? I’m always afraid to adjust loft if the specs say it opens the face 2-4 degrees.

I have tested the C722, but am going to return it under TEE's very generous 30-day playability guarantee. I think the issue is as much the shaft as anything (Tensei Orange 65 in stiff vs. my TSi2 gamer with KuroKage 50g SFW in stiff). Ball flight is a bit a low and while I no longer miss to the right, I can't seem to get the aiming quite right. It is also not going as far. Perhaps the E722 would work better for me with a lighter weight shaft? Appreciate any thoughts/ advice.
