Really appreciate the sentiment of this video, but the reality is TXG and Club Champion are on opposite ends of this spectrum. The TXG fitting I see on this channel seems incredible and exactly what I want. The (2) worst fittings of my life were at Club Champion. One in CA, one in VA, same lackluster experience, lazy fitters, and uncool upsell tactics.

Found the Facilities great, not all top brands were available or they couldn't be bothered asking me, the Upscaling was too $$$$$$, total 7k for ping irons and TM woods is ridiculous, There was something lacking in hindsight, there was not a lot of feedback from the fitter, just the good shot, well struck, lets change to this etc etc.

I got a driver fitting last year and was told by the fitter right out of the gate not to expect an “Ian” type of fitting. I was also told that if a person wanted an Ian or Mikey level fitting that it’s 4 times the price of a standard fitting and you pay that whether you purchased clubs or not. I understand that you get what you pay for but I didn’t notice a difference between the TXG/Club Champion fitting I had vs other fittings I’ve had with other companies. It was the TXG videos that ultimately made me want to give them a try but I’d say that the majority of the fitters at Club Champion are no better than the majority of fitters anywhere else.

Love this video and the approach you guys take. I wish all Club Champions were like this as I got fitted for a $1K driver setup last year that actually made my game worse. Needs to be some more consistency across locations if they’re all under the CC banner.

I totally get what you guys are trying to do here, but the reality is that what you do at TXG is leaps and bounds better than what you would get at a regular Club Champion. I would love to be proven wrong, but I would be concerned unless Ian is the one doing the training for every fitter at Club Champion. The one time I went to Club Champion, I felt pressured to buy certain clubs and shafts, and I replaced the irons literally a year later.

I had a fitting at Club Champion where the fitter tried completely changing my swing during the fitting. He put me into irons that will work "When I swing it properly". I started seeing a pro for lessons to get a few things straightened out, and went back for my driver fitting. He spent 20 minutes insulting my coach and trying to change what he had been working on with me. My game got so bad, I couldn't find my ball half of the time. I talked to my coach about he, he put me on the Mizuno Shaft optimizer and we realized that I was 4* out of proper lie and in a shaft that didn't work at all for me. I sold or traded everything I got from that Club Champion fitting and now have a completely different bag. The guy at the Club Champion here is still there even though you can find tons of reviews about how he has done this to lots of people. Just wondering how CC can continue to say that they are the best when they have guys like this in their employ. I wish I could have seen Ian for my fitting.

Well, I’m heading back to Ian and Mike’s facility next week. Over a five year period I’ve had a driver fitting and another related to reshafting a set of irons. The driver fitting was jaw dropping in the way they altered my ball flight and centre strike consistency. The fitting wasn’t done by Mike or Ian but I was extremely happy with the results. I’m going back because I’m five years older, I’m physically weaker and I’m noticing how those factors are impacting my mechanics. I’m a believer based on my experiences. We’re lucky to live in the same area. They’re good, we have an understanding of budget and I’m looking forward to it.

You can say no to purchasing from the fitter but you must be educated first. Thank you to Ian and Mike for an excellent video!

I actually had a fitting yesterday. I went in with a request to get fitted specifically for a shaft and lie-angle with the intention of ordering Takomo irons. With this in mind, the fitting was done with Taylormade P770, P790 and Qi. P790 was definitely the best one of the Taylermade clubs which the fitter told is closest to Takomo 101T. My shots were very toey and hence the lie-angle was set as 2° upright. Still the shots remained a bit toey even if significantly less then earlier. The fitter said that his guidline is that he doesnt go more than 2° in either direction. With this video, I noticed that you guys went up to 4° upright and the lie-angle with the shots was perfectly straight. I am now kind of indecisive whether I should order my clubs 2° or 3° upright because it seemed clear that the lie could still be straighter. I don't know why, but I never asked to try a bigger upright angle and this is now bothering me. Also one thing I consider annoying is when one down-talks other brands or businesses. In this case the fitter was down talking the shaft options available with Takomo, the KBS Tour and Tour Lite series. During the fitting KBS Tour Lite stiff seemed to be the best shaft until it actually broke down and the club-head almost flew off the shaft during my swing. After that we switched to KBS Max stiff and it turned out to be even better. I got some really great shots so in this sense I was really happy. Turns out that the shafts Takomo is offering aren't that bad after all... I got a decent offer for the P790 irons, but budget-wise I think Takomo 101T:s remain my choice for new irons. I was positively surprised that Takomo actually offers KBS Max shafts for customized clubs. I just don't know what to do with the lie-angle... Any advice?

Went to Club Champion in Tucson and got a fairway wood that I can hardly hit, and a hybrid shaft that doesn't seem as good as what I had in it previously. Went back a couple of months later and was told that they are fine for me (basically the brush off). CC seems all about how much they can sell you. Ian's fittings seem nothing at all like my CC experience, and from reading the comments it appears that is the opinion of many.

In my nearly 30 years as a PGA member "Custom fitting" has changed massively. Club Champion offers a tremendous service, but it can come at a premium price. Additionally, just like any other fitting service some of the success will be dependent on the quality of the fitter you get, and the quality of your striking that day. Not to be negative as I really like what Club Champion does, I have also heard horror stories of ill fitting sets/upcharges/etc.from Club Champion. Ian and Mike do a great job and are clearly excellent at their craft. All club fitters should strive to get to this level of expertise and understanding.

Couldn’t agree more. Club Champion experience is incredibly inconsistent. Mine was rushed through. Stick to the timeframe. The universal hosel attachment broke twice. And makes the clubs unbalanced with the weight in the heel. They didn’t have several shafts I wanted to try. And they tried to upsell puring a half dozen times. TXG or the remnants of it - appear to be a much different and better experience than the rest of club champion. Yes - there is much worse than club champion. It’s hard to find even decent fitting out there. But the idea that the club champion brand gets you anything remotely close to Ian is laughable. There just aren’t many Ians out there.

Enjoyed the knowledge sharing from the TXG Channel. Disappointed TXG went away and became Club Champ because the CC reputation in my area is not good. From other comments, it sounds like a common theme. Had a CC customer tell me they were told by CC the shafts they were fit to were an upcharge shaft. I know the mfr rep and he confirmed they were not. Also met a guy who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. Had been "fit" by CC in MN. Driver set him back about $1,200. What a waste. From what I've seen, Club Champ is interested in maximizing average order size more than anything else. Sincerely hope CC Mgmt reads these comments and make some changes. If not, I hope to see a return of the independent TXG. Actually I would like to see independent TXG regardless of what CC does. Keep up the good work lads!

So where does someone go that's reputable? Given that I use graphite shafts, seems it may be even more important for a proper fitting. I honestly don't believe going to a gold retailer would be a good choice. Their main goal is selling so that's who you're dealing with. A salesman rather than an experienced fitter. There are sites demonstrating how to do it yourself that seem really easy & you don't need special equipment.

I wish it was guaranteed that you would get a fitter like Ian or Mikey at other Club Champion locations, but it’s just not the case. My Club Champion fitter tried fitting me after telling me the spin readings on their Trackman were not working. Or the putter fitting i went to where i had to imagine the graphite shaft on one putter, on the head that was best for me on another putter, at the correct length, which would be 4 inches shorter than i was testing. That was the perfect putter for me, 3 parts of 3 different putters that i had no ability to test. That seems to be the more realistic Club Champion experience. All those close by in Canada, consider yourselves super lucky.

Got fit at Club Champion last week. Very similar experience to this episode. I hit 3 or 4 iron heads...3 or 4 shafts... Dialed in the best combo for my game (not the longest combo but the most efficient). TSR2 Driver/3wood and VA shafts got me ONLY a few more yards but more importantly predictable ball flights and spin rates to get better over all performance... I'm glad I took the plunge. The extra 50% in cost in upgraded shafts and lie-changes is the "value" of the fitting process. Without that investment, my game would be the same just with NEWER sticks. The difference between CC and the other guys is that ur paying for the correct shaft diagnosis and lie modifications.

Huge fan of your channel. In fact, best on fittings I have followed. I’ve tried to discuss custom fittings and book one without success. Both Mike and Ian on this fitting which is obviously not a standard fitting of 1-1.5 hours, would be a great fitting. Reality, cost would be $400 for an hour which this fitting was obviously a longer fitting than 1hour. Love what you guys do 100%. Let’s be honest here though. Fittings like this are not available without the marketing aspect.

Seems to me there is a difference between CC USA and CC Canada - AKA TXG. Been fit multiple times and Tim and Dave in Calgary Canada are two of the best I have seen. Knowledgeable and can look at your swing and actually analyze what you are doing and fit to not only the numbers, but what the see and hear from you in regards to feel. I was fitted into an iron set I would have never thought to use and I am happier every time I hit them. No hesitation to go to any CC in Canada with fitters trained by Ian and Mike. Maybe they need to head through the US and clean up some people there. Great video.

I recently went to be fit for new fairway woods. I requested to be fit to stock shaft offerings and was informed they don't do that. I had prepaid and driven over 2 hours to get there so proceeded with the fit. In the end I was fit to a nice aftermarket setup that was $1000+ per club. Total waste of my day and money. This was at a new Club Champion in Canada. I wish there would have at least been something on their website when booking, that explained this.

Maybe the txg guys will realize after this comment section that they are the exception at club champion & not the rule. CC in general seems to have at least 50% negative experience stories. Most cc fitters are just salesmen who have been trained on what numbers to look for & it shows. Add on top of that it’s expensive, would be fine, if every fitting was the quality of an Ian or Mikey. Would be nice if they could infect the rest of the company & cause changes to the dna of how they operate.

I once did a fitting for a driver where the fitter never discussed a shorter shaft than 45”, but he ended up ordering a 44.5” shaft. It was only by chance I noticed that in the order because otherwise I would have gotten a shaft that was never discussed at the fitting. I don’t know if 44.5 or was better 45, but since that was never discussed or tested at the fitting I was pretty pissed with the fitter making that change. That experience made me rethink fittings at that company (certainly I will never go to that location again). Trust is very important!

In the states, Ping is the absolute leader in custom fittings, hands down. No one can complete. They have PHD's that only work on fitting. They have the complete Arrcos database of millions of shot of real users of their products. They have detailed data of millions of shots to know which shafts work best their equipment. They have Ballnamic data base of the most extensive ball data available. The web fit tool is based off thousands of real world fitting and can get you scary close to you final spec. None of their fittings have any added cost to you unless you need or want an upcharge shaft which are the real deal shafts and available at a reasonable fee. Quality of the build is fantastic and have a fitting concierge that follows up with you. Sorry to geek out on Ping but they just do it right and have for a long long time.

It’s funny that he mentions keeping the player in the same shaft he’s using. I’ve used the Project X 6.0 for about 16 years now. I’ve been to CC twice and neither time did they actually have me hit any shots with those shafts. They always start with the Aerotech Steel Fiber and recommend a D5 swing weight. Last time I went, I just narrowed down the iron heads I liked (coincidentally, the T300), then went to a Titleist rep for a further fitting. He started to have me hit other shafts, then looked at what I was using, had me hit them with the 6.0 and said just stick with those shafts.

I recently had a long-game fiting at Club Champion. I was expecting the hard sales pitch based on feedback I heard from friends, but to my surprise, my existing driver out performed anything we were testing so the fitter advised me to keep what I have until the face cracks. However, on the 3-wood we made loft and weight placement adjustments but the 3-wood was delivered stock without adjustments and there were no notes in the system from the fitting to know what adjustments we need to make. I will need to go back again within 90 days to have it checked out. Nice to know I can go back, but still I shouldn't have to spend more time doing that. Especially after spending A LOT of money on three clubs with upgraded shafts.

Wish all locations went through your thoroughness. Prior to you joining Club Champion I had a very poor experience in Charlotte NC, then tried GolfTech and they built my clubs with the wrong shafts in my iron set and would not take them back. The shafts had no markings and the step in the shaft didn’t match the Elevate shaft they should have been. Happened during Covid but still no excuse for how I was treated. My best experience was Tru Spec in Pinehurst with a driver fitting. They were thorough and I didn’t feel hustled, but the cool part was after the indoor part of the fitting we moved outdoors to complete.

I have a bad feeling after my CC fitting. I ended with with a set of T200s and I was shocked at the price. I am embarrassed now to admit I paid nearly double the $1300 list price (5I though AW) even though I got pretty near stock shafts. It was too awkward for me to ask "why are these so much more than list price?". My fault though, I don't blame anybody but me. The issue now is that I'm not even sure I want to take them out of the box. I've considered looking to 2nd Swing to see how much I could recoup.

This makes me pretty sick. I managed to avoid a similar scenario by saying I wanted to think about it. What you could do is ask what happened to the stock shafts and grips you paid for in the club head price. That way you could resell those shafts to recoup some of the overpayment. Doubt they’d do it but no harm in asking.

Only pre requisite I have going into an iron fitting is that i need to hit Graphite. I don't swing super fast, but im also not super slow. Most people in my speed range use steel and most fitters look at me funny when i say i need graphite, but i just like the feel better 🤷‍♂️ i literally had a fitter try to tell me steel was better before he even saw my swing and really did not want to have me try graphite. I insisted and even while i was hitting with the graphite shafts was making comments like "see youre more consistent with the steel" and when we looked at the data after i actually hit it further with the graphite shaft and had very similar dispersion if not slightly better lol. I'd absolutely love to get fitted by someone like you guys, someone who cares about finding what truly works best for the customer. Sadly not all fitters love the process.

Two days ago I had a fitting at the Mississauga location. I felt so disappointed with the experience. I chose Club Champion for 2 reasons. I was fit by TXG a few years ago for a driver and had a great experience with the other reason being I wanted to try the signature irons from Haywood. When the fitting began I was told you did not have that head to be able to try it. Now I am thinking you deliberately aren't making it available because you don't make enough money on them. During the fitting I was never offered to hit any irons with stock shafts in order to compare the recommended premium shaft. Again because you won't make as much on the sale of stock shafts. Everything was an upsell. It was all very discouraging. In no way am I blaming the fitter . He was just doing his job. His recommendations were great but the price was way too high for me thus the Haywood Signature irons. Ian you have lost a customer.

If you had a specific head you wanted to try, why not call ahead of your fitting or before booking to insure that its available? Additionally, I have found in fittings if there is a specific combo I would like to try or something I want to hit for comparison, I ask for it. At the end of the day, the fitting is for you and you should be able to try what you want to. It make take sometime away from dialing in a perfect fit, but if there is something you adamantly want to try, it's reasonable to ask.

I got fit at the Club Champion (formerly Pureform Golf) in Brisbane while on holiday because my state doesnt have one at all. Jaydon there had me for my driver, woods and hybrids fitting and I learned so much about myself and my swing there didnt have any pressure to buy or pick a certain shaft, just genuinely tried to maximise my distance and give me something I would be happy with. I gained 30 METRES on my old Callaway Rogue Sub Zero. Couldnt reccommend the fitting process there more (except goddamn they need better AC lol). I did find I cant hit hybrids to save my life, no matter the setup but I stripe Callaway AI Smoke woods specifically just because the head visuals put my mind at ease and let me swing. I got to try all the brands I wanted (only about 3 I REALLY wanted to try) and was given others to feel out, experiment with midsize grips, retry my driver mid-set (important) and I settled with something Im very happy with shaft wise as he just changed up shafts on me with some of my feedback and looked at the performance. The fitting cost was totally reasonable for the knowledge and data you get back ($250 for all 3 clubs). But the build cost is what really gets you, proper boutique shafts are NOT cheap but the selection was backed by data and left up to me to make the call and I chose to go all out. Callaway Max AI Smoke driver, Max D 3 wood and 7 wood with Draco shafts in correct stiffness for me. 3.5k total is eye watering but Id rather my tools be as perfect for me as they can so the only other issue to work on is me 😂 takes out the questions during learning and training. My mistake was not realising they had one in Brisbane and not getting fit here before I bought my whole set of Mizuno Pro 221 irons, I likely would have fit in a KBS shaft at about 100-105 instead of 120 or gotten a putter fitting. Now I know and Ill be back, if anything for the data and knowledge alone.
