Speedrunning breeds competition. Friendly feuds are forged throughout all of speedrun history over trying to beat a certain time. We’ve seen this play out time and time again. Collaboration often takes a backseat to competition. Which makes the story of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger all the more remarkable.
Of the many popular platforming games that came out in the late 90s and early 2000s, Ty is not one of them. However, the small community of Ty runners saw the game not for what it was, but what it could be. They all worked together to make it the run it is today. They did it for the love of the game. They held out hope that their faith would be rewarded with a great speedrun. Were they right? Welcome to Speed Docs.

Ty has been one of the best things to happen to me in the last year and a bit and I've got absolutely no regrets about my journey with the game, I'm looking forward to otgers sharing in this journey pushing the game forward collaboratively with the friends we've made along the way in pursuit of our dreams! Never thought I's get so involved with a game other than Age of Empires 2, but damn this game has a wonderful community as well! -SirLaurenceNZ (aka Lawn)

@@jamesolson6544 yeah, sadly 4 was made after the studio went bankrupt. its a low budget 2d side scroller with a very short play time and story. the studio has returned from said bankruptcy in style by remastering all the games but 4 has remained untouched with devs stating they will not remake 4 into a 3d platformer. they are currently working on a Ty 5. most studios never make it back from bankruptcy but Krome said NO and crawled back from the grave.

As the current Max% first place holder on Xbox, XboxOne and Ps2 (recently got the first place revoked on PC), it is insanely great to see people getting both interested on speedrunning the game and listening the story about it. Great video! Ty was the first game I played on PS2 and is a very big part of my childhood, so I enjoyed speedrunning it back when I had the time

I had to do some research on how my nickname came about (friends just started calling me it so I had to ask the ones who started it). Apparently someone made a typo of my name and called me "LawnRence" or something and the Lawn stuck. It then spread rapidly between all of my friend groups in AoE2 until it displaced all other nicknames I had before, so I kind of just rolled with it cause people refused to call me Laurence in tight games and and I preferred Lawn over Larry. And thus I became Lawn because of some stranger spelling my name wrong and my friends at the time latching onto it and spreading it amongst all my friends. To this day the only nicknames people use for me are ones my colleagues use and they're quite fond of their own nickname "Rau/Lrau" cause they can just make a funny sound. -SirLaurenceNZ (AKA: Lawn, Larry, Rau, Lrau, Laurence, Larry boy, Laurie, Laurence of Arabia)

I played through Ty about a year or two ago (casually, not a speed runner) and I have to say, it was honestly pretty good. I think in the early 2000s the market was a bit saturated and it was overshadowed by games that were probably a little better but it's genuinely a good game and is not significantly worse than the first crash bandicoot or the like. If my memory of the third game is correct, it is every bit as good as crash or spyro and might honestly be better than even the more polished later games (not the re-releases of crash/spyro, the original later games).

Wow, amazing video. Im guessing they only can skip 1/3 of the game by swimming over the fence to cass pass because they need to get the frostyrang... If you could beat the flame robot in the final boss without it would it be possible to go straight to cass pass without playing any stages after two up?
@SpeedDocs
@SpeedDocs 2 жыл бұрын
They specifically need the frostyrangs for the turrets on the final battle. I forget exactly where flamerangs are needed elsewhere.
@Kythol
@Kythol 2 жыл бұрын
So for the final boss, there are 3 phases. Phase 1 requires the frostyrangs to destroy the turrets. Phase 2 requires the flamarangs to destroy the wires. If you were to glitch into the wires room with the flamarang and destroy them without first destroying all of the turrets, it would softlock the game as the trigger to receive the doomarang isn't active until you destroy those turrets. To skip frostyrangs, you would need to find another way to destroy the turrets, and to skip flamarangs, you would need to either find another way to destroy the wires OR activate and hit the trigger that gives you doomarangs. With all that being said, the end game trigger is always active in the pipes, so it mostly comes down to finding a way to get the doomarang early.
