Very nice, it's a credit to you. It amazed me to see an American putting Holden badges on a Chev. There was a time when people were fitting Chev badges to their Holdens here. I have a 2004 Holden Calais V8, I love it!

The black strip on the front bumper is called A SPORTS ARMOUR and the cost in Australia vary from $250 - $300

My favorite mod so far on the SS. And you said why when you mentioned having the '16 hood because that is what i was thinking. The side vents in black would tie in the hood vents so much better since they are just randomly put on there and no chrome(no rhyme or reason) with the finished looks of this car. I love the Holden center caps too but i am not gonna do a Holden front grill etc. ( too much work) not as talented as you and i would have an SS sitting my my garage in pieces for the rest of my life if i took it apart lol. I am thinking of getting the shades that go in the windows, just for the summer heat. Like your car mine won't see any rain or snow (not on purpose) Here in Houston, it is hard to know somedays. You can be in perfect weather but say i drove 30 minutes or more away from home on a road trip> then BAM it could start to pour down. ( hating that moment that happens) But it is a reality here. Hate having to get the undercarriage dirty and stuff and them cloth wheel well liners grrrrrr. Haha. However the heat here in Houston is brutal. If i had to just take it for a long drive that would at least help protect the back end from sun damage and cut down on the heat inside. Tell me what you think. I do not think i wanna tint these windows. I mean everyone is, but seems some ppl have issues with the dot matrix design and said their shops just SANDED them down. Uhhhhhh, no thank you, no one is sanding down ANYTHING on my car :D haha. Since i wont be a daily driver, no need in it, i mean i like the tint look like a light tint. I do not care for tinting the back window, i think personally it affects the defroster possibly and if not, it could. (says in manual do not apply anything over it) Also, i think the antenna is in the back glass ? do nto quote me, what do i know haha. Love it. tell me what you think about those shades for using on road trips and or when it might have to sit out ( my queen ) in the sun for a show(off) meet up ^^ :P
@TyBrink
@TyBrink 7 жыл бұрын
6.2LTRV8 yeah I really think the black side vents would look good with your hood! I have thought about tinting my windows as well but I don't trust bringing it anywhere to do stuff like that either! Are the shades you're talking about like a factory accessory type thing? I don't think it would be a bad idea to get them if you live in such a hot place I could not stand that kind of heat all summer!
@6.2ltrv85
@6.2ltrv85 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, they just snap in, much like BMW and other cars Mercedes some and or Audi's have them built in, just pull them up or hit a button for rear. These are custom fit and would just snap in. Just for when i am gonna be out in the heat a long time not for showing it or whatever. Just for protection or trips. I have always tinted my cars not my trunks/jeeps but they came with factory rear quarter and window tint from the factory. I wish, like the Alfa Romeo, they had offered or just made them factory tinted rear back. I do not trust guys either but sure i can find someone, just freaked when i heard on the forum several ppl mention them FILING or SANDING down the dot matrix. Um, no thank you :D lol XD To be honest i want PPF on mine, at least the front quarter but man it cost so much. Thinking of just a bra. Each time i think just the bra then i say well i may as well do the hood which leads to fenders and top and so on and on lol. I cannot spend 8K or more wrapping my car. I will see. Prob just gonna put the bra on. I was trying to research the LONG term affects of these things such as the ceramic and or PPF. No one really knows. AMMONYC guy, who does detailing ( maybe you know of him) he just had to do a paint buff and touch up on the front of a porsche that had a clear bra and when they went to replace the bra, it took off the paint or clear coat rather. :( Um, cannot have that. They may have just done it wrong or something ( he did not do the removal) but still. I like the self healing ability. Do not care about the ceramic unless you have it anc can tell me why to get it. Seems like more less work but they still need maintenance with SPECIAL products. I just washed and wax mine yesterday, about 3 hours or less. It never goes out much and its just dust. I just keep coating it with carnuba over sealant. Looks nice to me, beads fine. Seems that is all we use to use/have and it was fine, now all this new tech and we cant live without it? Humm, i just do not know. The clear bra i can see being useful on roadtrips but really now, how many are or am i gonnna take especially at my age now lol. I did all that when i was YOUR age. Got a ding here and there on my good car and drove my junker to work and errands. Lemmie know what you think when you have time on either the PPF or the ceramic coatings. Think i will go ahead and get the window things. Cant hurt , they just pop in and out. :D

6.2LTRV8 I have watched almost all of Larry/ammonyc 's videos haha, and also there is another guy I watch his name is Matt (youtube name obsessed garage) who doesn't use clear bra or anything even on his Porsche just because he doesn't like the way it looks. I'm guessing it's just a little more dull and less shiny than the actual paint. I think it depends what the roads are like around you and if you think you will get tons of rocks flying into your front end. And really I think it just depends if you want to spend the money. I have gotten ony 2 very very tiny rock chips on my front bumper over 2000 miles here in Iowa and the roads have gravel and I meet some big trucks that usually throw rocks at you. And of course I have to drive a mile of gravel where I could meet a car going 70mph from either direction throwing rocks at me. Anyway I think ceramic coating is good for paint protection and the ability to easily clean the car since water will just fly off but I don't think it will protect from rock chips.

Yes, i agree. Some ppl have ceramic coated over the ppv....that is getting up there in price. I mean, it is not a ferarri. But i feel i just would like some protection at least on the front. Lets say i wanna drive to Austin for the weekend, its all interstate highway, and trucks. Its about 2:45 minutes, i could just save myself some worry with the bra. Take my chances. Not sure. I bought the car saying i am gonna drive it but now i am scared to drive it for more reasons than one. First im older and its bigger and i cannot keep up with it if i drive it in foul weather. If i ceramic it, that would help, but that is a bonding chemical and im not sure of long term. I have contacted Larry who was just out of town in Norway, he replied to call him and talk about things to do. I might. Otherwise, if its just gonna be around town here, its fine how i got it just kept waxed and all. I wanna get set up ( my garage is not as big as YOUR 9 car garage but, i wanna take off my wheels so i can clean them like once or twice a year and fully clean and wax them. Been using this stuff Bouncers Wheel Candy or something, made for high temp wheels and i love it. It is out of UK tho and hard to find here as all the detail places are out. I am considering some of Larrys products. His wheel gelee etc. I would ceramic the wheels too, i just wanna know what or a bit more on what someone like him thinks is gonna be the long lasting outcome, for it is untested. Like in 12 years is it gonna become cloudy and need buffed out or what. No one knows. I am a bit afraid of the unknown. OK, LETS FACE IT I HAVE OCDDDDDDDDD Imma check out this other guys channels you talked about. I am dead dog tired from the detail yesterday, especially cleaning and waxing WHEELS....my handddss omg. Just wait til your my age. LOL. Ok Ty, appreciate it. Wish we could meet up for coffee or a beer and talk and show off our cars. YOUR TOO FAR haah. Maybe one day. Me and you will be few of the ones that still have one and in minty condition ;D Talk to you later, gonna nap again, and watch YT, i am not doing a damn thing today. Taking the day off ( yes i am retired) haha. :D

The side grills are much better in black. In Australia, Holden sells the Black Edition model for the SV6 and some SS models. Part of this option has the side grills come in black. Have you checked out the Holden Sportwagon and the Maloo Ute that sells in Australia?Subscribed to your channel as well.

Thanks for the very helpful video regarding replacing the SS side fender vents. They look great! The process looks to be much simpler than shown in the GM instructions. The special plastic tool that you used at the top of the vent to pry it off is a mystery. What was it? Do you think a simple flat-blade screwdriver would work equally well? And did any of the four plastic clips on the backside of either vent break off when the vents were removed?
@TyBrink
@TyBrink 7 жыл бұрын
Matt Shannon haha that plastic tool I think came with a truck brake light that I bought a long time ago. I would definitely try something plastic before using a flat screwdriver. If you try the credit card thing and just push down hard right in the middle of the top it should release. With the plastic tool I was using I tried to pry it out instead of pushing down to release it. And no, none of the clips broke.

Wot a shame my 2017 HSV Clubsport F2 R8 is going up in value in Australia. MUSTANGS AND SRT 300C are not reliable cars in Australia and don't hold there value. You would love the CLUBSPORT R8 .YANK CARS HAVE CHEAP MEXICAN LABOR PARTS .IN THEM THAT IS WHY JEEPS ARE HATED IN AUSTRALIA YOUR SS IS A 100% AUSSIE MADE CAR NO THIRD WORLD MADE LABOR PARTS LIKE YANK CARS. YOU WILL MISS THAT ..Holden COMMODORE SS.

How hard was it to install the splash guards (mud flaps)? Did u use the OEM ones?
@TyBrink
@TyBrink 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I used the oem holden logo ones you can get them from the chevy dealer. Just remove a couple existing bolts, pop the flaps on and put the bolts back in. Use a small ratchet to avoid needing to remove the wheels.

B-MELO B1 I'm not sure, they are most likely designed differently than this car but who knows. You should be able to tell how they install when you get them in the mail. Could be bolts, some type of clips like this, or even double sided tape.

Ty...question for you... Do people stop you and ask about the Holden lion and the car itself?
@TyBrink
@TyBrink 7 жыл бұрын
tripsadelica I personally have never had that happen yet. I don't drive it a whole lot and when I do I pretty much just cruise around some empty roads. When I'm around some traffic though I do catch quite a few people staring, not really sure the reason for that. There's not much interest in cars in general where I live, more of a lifted diesel truck small town area. I really need to get in some car shows sometime though, maybe then I could talk to more people about it.

Thanks for the reply, Ty. I think what you have done is an honourable tribute to the car's true heritage and will warm the heart of any Aussie who happens down your way in future. I know that when I visited the US back in 2013 I was really happy to see a few G8s and I even saw a ute that someone had converted to LHD. It was also nice to see a couple of Mitsubishi Diamantes as these, too, were made in Australia for the export market. Down here (because of fuel prices) I have curbed the urge to buy a V8 Commodore. Instead, because of family needs, I went out and bought one of the last-built Commodore Sportwagons in metallic black. It's the V6 version. The wagons, utes and the Caprice (luxury car) versions are in short supply now as the factory has begun the big wind-down to the end in a few week's time. The very last production units will be rush orders from customers here wanting to cash in on the collectible status the vehicle will attain in a few year's time and bulk government orders for police vehicles. The police forces here have relied on the big block Commodores and local Ford Falcons for years and now they are floundering a bit wondering what cars they will use next and gobbling-up the last of Holden's sedan production. They'll probably jump to Chrysler's 300, Mercedes and BMWs, which is going to cost them way more than it did for the venerable local models. Anyway...being a typical old fart I have prattled on too long. Great job, Ty... Enjoy your Holden and drive it with pride. As a guy who has driven Holdens for many, many years starting with a '63 Holden "Special", I know you'll enjoy owning your car. Best wishes.

Here's a couple of links for you. The first is a documentary about why the car industry (and in particular, Holden) has died in Australia: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXq1pohuptSnadU The second is a documentary from the late 80s when Holden was coming out of the bad days of poor quality in the late 70s and looking forward to its future. It also looks at the very early days of Holden's existence. Enjoy!: kzbin.info/www/bejne/joCmen95m6mia6M

407ForRent it depends what year your car is. I got my front grille/rear badge kit from my GM dealer for $200 which came with a new chrome surround as well. Not sure if you can get the 2016+ grille kit from GM. You can also get it from Holden Parts USA online but it is more expensive and doesn't come with replacement chrome surround. The wheel caps you can get from either GM dealer/ gmpartsdirect (#92226706) but the best deal is from holden parts usa. $135 free shipping.

OH, i meant to ask you, guess this should be pm's but what the heck. Have you been on the forum? (the shit storm forum?) haha. Some of these guys 2017s are arriving with travel DAMAGE. Creased trunks and hoods and shit. One guy had a NGM on order and then took a SIM on sale and cancelled is ordered one. ONLY in the sunlight about a foot long line in middle of hood looks like a crease , some paint flaw shit. He is pissed as hell. ( i would be too ) sick more like it. "Guess some of the 20% cars were seconds" LOL Can you imagine your dealer calling you and telling you, "Hey , your new car is in but has some damage tot he trunk, we will fix it then call you to come pick it up" uhhhhhhhh >
