フィンランド南部のヴァンマラ村を拠点とするパンク〜ポスト・パンク・バンド、Tyhjät Patteritによる、同国70's〜80's初頭の名門パンクレーベル、Pokoからリリースされた2ndシングル。
Hilse-Levytからリリースされたラフで100%ピュア・パンクロックな1stシングルからすると、ほんの一歩だけニューウェイヴ風味に足を突っ込んだようなシングルで(とはいえまだまだパンク・ロックだけど)、イントロの単音かき鳴らし⇨なかなか重厚でKilling Jokeばりに斬り込んでくるギターと、高音フィンランド語で歌うヴォーカルがツボなパンク・ナンバーであるA面”Osat Hukassa” (邦題は"部分的紛失"？) が大好きで、途中、一瞬レゲエ調アクセントを取り入れるところも素晴らしい。B面はやや引き算気味なミッドテンポ・ナンバーでまぁ普通っちゃ普通だけどポスト・パンクに近寄った曲でそれなりに良いし、なんと言ってもA面がズバ抜けてキャッチーで良いので総合的に名シングルと認定している。
次の3rdシングル以降、バンドは完全にニューウェイヴ/ポスト・パンク化。のちにメンバーは、同じくフィンランドのオール・フィメール・シンセ・ポップ・バンド、Belaborisへの曲提供を行うなどして活躍。バンド名は＜Empty Batteries(燃料切れのバッテリー)＞の意。
余談だが、同じ北欧でもスウェーデンやノルウェー、デンマークはゲルマン語圏だけど、フィンランドだけは内陸でアジアやモンゴル語圏と近いルーツ(ウラル・アルタイ語族、厳密にはウラル語族)らしいので、どこか母音がアジア〜日本語的に聴こえて親しみある感触を持つところが、日本でもフィンランド・パンクが人気の理由かもしれないと勝手に推測。
Tyhjät Patterit is a band from Southern area of Finland/Suomi. In the beggining they started as a punk band but turned into more post punk / new wave sounds. This is their 2nd and the best single from legendary Finnish Label Poko Records (I also love their more punky 1st single from another legendary label Hilse-Levyt).
Side-A "Osat Hukassa" is the one of the best song they made, it sounds punky, but it also has a very light post punk taste (you know?) and this single is a bridging songs from Punk Rock to Post Punk, especially guitar sound and drumming, and also reggae approach appears on later of the song. Side-B is a mid tempo "more post punk" number, but I highly recommend Side-A as you can hear.
They turned into more New Wave / Post Punk sounds after 3rd single and some of the members made songs for All Female Finnish Synth Pop band Belaboris later. BTW, the name Tyhjät Patterit means "Empty batteries". Kinda cool.
