This is the best sea run brown trout fly I know for on the island of Newfoundland. Great job Dave!

This pattern minus the partridge hackle used to be a very good seatrout fly on the Border Esk.

As stated previously, I see this as being a great pattern on my local water when finicky fish are keying in terrestrials, but turn or shy away from larger hopper patterns that I see being used here locally. This is a great pattern to practice proportions and knowing when you should stop with one material and begin with the next. As always, first class showing!

Hi Davie was wondering if you could maybe do a wee vid on dying various materials like capes etc and if there's a certain mix or way of doing it as I'm finding it hard to get some colours in various materials and never done it before and who better to ask than yourself 👍
@DavieMcPhail3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie, I should have filmed dyeing one or two of the capes but I was in a hurry to get them done bur next time I will see what I can do... All the very best Davie..

Hi another great looking fly expertly tied and explained. i notice that you use the Tiemco bobbin holder. I looked on line for one and it stated that the black tubeb one is the heavy duty type and the white tube is the standard version. Is yours the heavy duty one and if so why did you chose that one which is advertised for heavier salmon and salt water flies? Thank you in advance for your advise! ps i only tie for uk trout on resiviors.and still waters.

Hi I Believe, I mostly have the Tiemco heavy duty bobbin holder but I also have two or three of the fine white ones, though the heavy duty is the one I use mostly and have been doing so since 1990 when I first bought one and if I remember right they were called floss bobbin holders at the time...I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
