I always enjoy watching Davie tie and listening to the lilt of his dialect. But what I especially liked about this video was the advice to "Have fun." It's easy to think of fly tying as labor and the fishing as fun, but as Davie makes clear, it can be a lot of fun tying too. Beautiful rendition of the Hare's Ear, Mr. McPhail. Thank you.

A wee fly to start off the fishing season in March 👍, u must be one of the greatest fly dressers of all time. I bought a vice when I was 15 years old and never really got into it. Football took over but I always had and will have a love for fly fishing. I regret not sticking at the fly tying!

hate to be a pain but after researching the family tree I find my family to be the Laird's of Invernahyle. Do you know of any flies from this area. Not sure wheather they were fishing rivers or lochs. I know you are a fly historian and I love fishing the old flies. Especially the NC spiders. Funny that during the hatch the dry fly fishermen ask me what I'm using. They cant believe silk and a little hackle fools the Browns.

I got a whole fly box that has nothing but Hare's Ear Nymph's in it. Of late I have gotten really lazy, I been tying and fishing an NZ variation called the Hare and Copper. It works really well here in CT. I tie them all in sizes # 14 down to a #20 size # 18 seem to work the best. The more they get chewed on the better they get, so I tie them a bit more shaggy. Natural and dyed Olive, same for my PT's petty much my most used nymphs. One of my favorite times of the year is going into fall, low water, and # 18 or # 20 on 6x or 7 x tippet, NZ strike indicator (white ) and sized to what a # 16 dry fly would be. Not uncommon for me to pick up 18 to 30 fish in an afternoon.
