I have tied a lot of these over the years. This caught my largest dry fly caught Cutthroat in a beautiful river I had never fished before. This pattern is very durable and catches well!

I don't know why I haven't stumbled upon this particular video until now... but so glad that I did. Mini muddlers are my usual choice for a surface attractor but they can be slow & tedious to tie... I'm certain this pattern could replace every one of them... Your methods are first class Davie, it is always a pleasure to watch you at the vise Sir. Many thanks for sharing.

Top class fly as per usual, much easier than cutting bunch after bunch of deer hair. Thanks for the great tip. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Donie.

Great video as always, I've never seen a bad one! You talked about Hares mask light-bright mix with a coffee blender, anyway it's more for Seals fur dubbing with light-bright mix for Salmon flies I'm after, seems to be the fashion. What way is best?? & is it the spirit river stuff you use?? Cheers, Emmet.👍🏻

Hi Emmet, I would lightly blend the lite-brite which does come from spirt river though there are many others that you could use as well. I like to add it bit at a time and only pulse the blender and not blend it so much that it cuts up the lite-brite into little pieces..I also like to add a little drop of rabbit or even some under fur from arctic fox tails which I keep as this will help bind the fur and flash together.. All the very best Davie

Davie, when you mix the gold lite bright with the hare's mask, do you cut the lite bright to a specific length? Does blending the mix make either of the fibers shorter? Mike
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, The lite-brite dubbing is the perfect length for blending but if I have no dubbing left I'm quite happy to use the hanks but I'll cut it into a length of about an inch and then blend it in...When I'm blending the lite-brite into the fur I will pulse it and not blend it for too long as this will cut up the lite-brite into small pieces as you mentioned... All the very best Davie
