Another brilliantly tied fly sir. This fly will be visiting my vise often this winter to be used this next coming year. Have you ever heard of Fravel's Fancy? It's a fly that was popular in the 1970's in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you Mr. McPhail for your videos, they are greatly appreciated.

Hi Terryll, I'm sorry I have not heard of this fly, I looked through all my books and found nothing as I do have a few books on flies from America...I'll keep looking and if I do find it I will get back to you and as well if you do find it yourself please let me know as I would be interested to know the dressing myself.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie..Beautiful wet fly, great tie. Can you tell me the length of the hook you're using? I looked online and there is 2 different Fulling Mill all purpose hooks. One is 3XL and they other is standard length (1XL) Thanks for the instructions on this great fly. :)

Hi Stryker 2, I have attached a link to the All-Purpose Medium hook which suits many flies like the KeHe I tyed in the video, you cam also use the Competition Heavyweight which I like to use as well when I want the fly to hold and sit that little deeper...I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. Just adding that Pheasant to the tail makes a difference. So do you recall a comment a month or two ago when I asked about what a fly body with no coachman red tied in on the peacock herl would be called? So here if we put a centre band of red in the body, you would call it a Royal Coachman? Or? I am thinking this would work in some situations Or Not? Would it be called a Royal Coachman? Anyway just a thought. Thinking about your other uses for adding red. I used to have a supplier in your neibourhood back in the bad old days. He sold me Red Grouse and Snipe Feathers. They made the perfect fly for Stillwater years ago!

Great fly Davie as always! Quick question though, what's difference between a wet fly and a nymph in regards to fishing them?
@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, I fish them much the same way upstream allowing them to drift with the flow but I will at times lift to flick the rod tip to lift the flies which works really well..I will as well let them swing below me but you need to keep the rod high to allow the fish to turn on the flies without too much tension..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie...
