@@IainSB Hi Iain hope you' re keeping well..... have you caught many springers on your special fly. My season is starting in a few days..... Believe it or not but I have only caught a few springers in my time 🤷♂️😂
@IainSB4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul .. I have used this fly for quite a few years and had most of my springers on it. I fishedthe Thurso in the spring and most of the fish I caught were on the single dropper . I had three one April evening one after the other on beat 12. Scotland will not allow fishing for at least another week and when it does I may not get out as my wife Frances is one of the vulnerable and I have been told by the medics that she attends that I should not go out in case I bring the virus home. At the moment I am polishing my Rods but don't know when I will get a chance to use them. Tight lines when you get out and stay safe. Cheers iain🥃

@@IainSB Hopefully your wife will be ok! and maybe you'll get out at some stage. That's good hear about the fly..... I fishing Carnroe and there's some good springers been caught on it's 1st week and hopefully I can get one to go with my Big Autumn fish of a few years ago. Iain you should try Carnroe someday it's the most prolific river in N. Ireland.... I could guide for you. Free!!! 😉

I appreciate your invitation but I don't travel far from home in case I have to return quickly. I have in the past thought of fishing on the Bann and I love to go fishing with anglers that appreciate the rivers they fish . I hope that maybe one day I can get back and fish more of the Irish rivers. Please let me know how you get on and make sure to give the special a good work out 👌Cheers Iain 🥃

Iain, came upon your videos by chance. What a stroke of good fortune on my part. They are excellent and I thoroughly enjoy each in its own right. I was pleasantly surprised to see you upload one of tying your favourite fly. Unfortunately my hearing is not as good as it could be and wonder if you could reply with the actual dressing, as I am guessing at bits on the video. Obliged and tight lines for the season.....

Hi Neil Thanks for the encouraging and good comment. I always keep leftovers of nail varnish the thicker the better so that I can glue the jungle cock feathers . The tying .... tail is two parts of goose biots the body is holographic sheet (self adhesive) with silver wire wrapped around.the wing is golden pheasant dyed red then natural squirrel . the sparkly bit is angel hair then squirrel hair dyed black. the throat is hen dyed blue and then my glued jungle cock are added to finish....... the wire I use I get from Hobby shops as its a lot cheaper I use 34 gauge.also the holographic plastic sheets I have bought there.. but they can both be found on Ebay... the fly I tied was on size 8 double but I have had a lot of success on smaller and singles..and larger ones on plastic tubes All the best for the coming season and keep your rod bent.cheers Iain. PS if you look further down in the comments you will see that Billy,s comment has the Ebay code for the self adhesive any other questions give me a shout

Great fly Iain, thanks for the dressing. You fish with a dropper of the same fly in a smaller size? And do you fish both the special with the orange and black tube fly together?
@IainSB3 жыл бұрын
I usually tie the single hook quite small and when using a size 8 double on the tail and a size 8 single on the dropper, the dropper looks smaller just because of its dressing. I do sometimes have a dropper on while fishing my orange tube . most of the time I have the orange tube on its own as the times I fish with it the water is usually high and coloured or cold .

Iann, great videos! Save some fish for me at Cardona, please--will be fishing there in a couple of weeks. Question: how long should the biots be with relation to hook length? Thanks.
@IainSB5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen I think you should be ok for the fishing there is a lot of fish on the lower tweed waiting to come up river. I make the biots about a quarter of the hook length.. but if we have more water and the river is running high make sure you have fast sinking tips and some waited flies as some of the pools are over 10 feet deep. Cheers Iain
