The Peute was originated by french fly fishing pioneer, Henri Bresson. The fly was created after that Mr Bresson meet a Gypsy on the river Cusancin. They started talking and after a while the Gypsy passed on to him a deep secret of how to catch fish, the feather from the breast of a Wild Female Mallard Duck has magical power, especially during the months of May and June. After this meeting Bresson designed some rough suggestion of caddisflies with this magical feather. Later, when he encountered a nice caddis hatch on the river Dessoubre river, it was time to try the new flies. The flies worked spectacular and the fly was quickly baptised, The Peute. The Peute, what does that mean you can wonder? well is a word of Franc-Comtois dialect meaning ugly ;-).. I just love these stories you can find in old fishing books.
