I love the way that Ellie interacts with the animals while hearing the birds sing in the back ground. The close up shots of the wild flowers is also a nice touch. I also like the way that you describe whats going on while filming the construction of the house. It really draws the viewer into the world of country style living at it's best.

I watch each video twice because I can’t really follow Josh’s description of what he is going to be doing and after watching it again and seeing it, then I understand his descriptions on the second viewing. I think his ability to understand the framing design drawings should actually require a degree in construction, but he’s an electrician? Unbelievable.

I have enjoyed watching all the DIY and family fun for years. I did notice that you both are working directly above unprotected rebar ends. If one of you are a child were to fall off the second floor you could be seriously injured or worse. They make plastic caps, that look like mushrooms. This would provide a degree of protection and you may want to consider installing them. Keep up the good work!!

I went to see Wild Roots cafe' today. Had the House breakfast sandwich and substituted sausage for bacon. It was a Hot Mess like the woman I've been married to for forty-three years, but I loved it - and her, too! Followed up with a Cinnamon Bun. Good Lord, best I've ever had! None better in my 70 years of searching for it. Even Cinnabon! Actual Magic. Staff was multigenerational and beyond polite. It felt like coming home to the little town I was born in, seventy years ago. Took me most of two hours to get there from my humble home in Fairfax County. Worth every mile/minute. On, on, Erin and Josh! And many thanks to the Staff and bakers on duty this morning (19 May 24).

Josh and Erin, I like to watch the progress of your build. One thing that I commend you for is the amount of construction that you have done while working just as a couple. I spent 40+ years working in the building trades; and the biggest part of it was done by just me and the boss - my best friend - and a highly skilled craftsman. We worked mostly in home remodeling and repairs for the residents in the college town of Clarion, Pennsylvania. Many of the houses that we were in were quite old, large Victorian style residence. We had a reputation amongst the professionals for being willing to take on restorations that the larger contractors seemed unwilling to take on. All as to say, you two make a good crew. I enjoy the short glimpses from around your farmstead. They always reveal the beautiful surroundings of your location. But, in this video, the one visual that I thought was so endearing, was the look on Ellies face whenever Josh was explaining what he was doing with the battery box in the chicken coop. She was so attentive and mature about the whole interaction.

I have a couple of suggestions to upgrade the house, see what you think... 1. A lightning rod for the peak of the roof. 2. To make the safe room more secure, berm the outside walls as much as possible. Also, I did not see indications of ventilation in the safe room. I would guess that is in the plans. Don't forget a bucket toilet. It will be a Godsend if you have to be there for a while. I also keep a set of headphones for the kids. That way the loud storms don't bother them. I would recommend using glow-in-the-dark tape for the door frame and steps leading to the safe room. Practice with the kids getting to the safe room. In a pinch, it needs to be grab and go. You may only have minutes to get in there. Make your door out of oak and steel layers so it is solid but looks nice. Congrats on the good progress. I know how satisfying it is to make visible progress.

For your mini orchard..... Olympia figs grow really well in Virginia and West Virginia. They don't mind the cold winters and you get tons on beautiful, dark, sweet large figs in only a year or so.

The scenery is gorgeous this time of year. The house is coming along so nicely. It’s awesome to watch Ellie and her animals. Wild Roots coffee is now my favorite coffee especially for in the morning. I hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.

I am so glad to see the progress of your home and very glad you got that difficult stretch of building the safe room mostly behind you. I am looking forward to seeing how you finish off that part of the house. I can hardly wait to see the inside of the safe room when it is finished. Love the cafe!! Those cinnamon rolls and pastries are dynamite! Your head cook is fantastic! And the other workers are so good as well. Also the breakfast sandwiches look great and I suffer wanting to taste that espresso, sigh. You all seem so near, yet so far away. It is such an entertaining channel.

Got my 2 soaps, candle, and coffee last week. I am truly enjoying my Dream Weaver soap and Appalachian Mountain candle. I’ve got to get a grinder for the coffee, thought I had chosen “ground” but obviously didn’t. Can’t wait to try it when I can. Thank you. I look forward to visiting - shouldn’t be too long a trip, we’re in NC.
