this is one of the best imitations of a buzzer Ive seen ,,,the buds are what sets it apart i think as it just gives that authenticity and catching touch ,,nothing else but magnificent is the words i would use.

Mr.McPhail you are a true artist. When you talk about "Ladies Varnish" is that like clear nail polish or something only in Europe.

Is this fly also known as a chironomid pupae? That's what we call them here in Canada. Your flies are spectacular, thanks for doing this for us!

Davie, Have you tried a very light coat of varnish first to lock in the ink? I found that when I was tying with pens, if I used a first coat of superglue the pens ran but when using Varnish it didn't. I used maybelline ladies varnish as it is very light and runny. The Bug Bond may work in the same way as the Superglue. The only thing I would worry about is if the undercoat takes away the shine and effect of the Bug Bond? Just a Thought... Best Regards, ~David

Lovely job. Can I ask what colour the lite-brite wing buds are ?

Hi BEN10T010, A chartrues/yellow would be ideal for this pattern though a pearl would also work well as you can easily colour it to suit with marker pens..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..

Well. Patrick from tipperary here again. Your buzzer tyings are top class. I've just one question. When u use the bug bond and u put the uv light on it, when i take the fly out of my vice with my hand it takes the nice glass shine off the fly. Do u come across this problem at any time or am i doing something wrong. Thanks.

Hi Davie, could you tell me what make of Lite-Brite you are using in this video, I am attempting to use the Spirit River product and it seems much "fluffier" than you show in the video and is very difficult to control Many thanks, awesome videos, keep up the great work.

First class pattern Davie. Do you resin or varnish all your buzzers? I’ve seen a few patterns with resin, some with varnish, some with both and some with only the head tip being varnished as per a usual pattern. Unfortunately my fat thumbs seem to destroy the sheen when using a clear varnish only with the finished article looking a bit worse for wear before even seeing the water and the thoughts of curing a full pattern with a damn laser uv light fills me with dread at times especially when doing a handful at a time. Must invest in a decent light like the Infiniti by Loons even though I’ll have to keep that purchase on the qt from her highness.

Hi Junior J, I prefer to use superglue and then a couple of coats of varnish as it's the way I have done it for years with no issues though I do like to highlight the wing-buds and thorax with the resin as this works really well...Having a strong uv light will cure the resin much better and sitting them on the window sill will help cure the resin as well..I hope this is some help to you... All the very best Davie....

Davie McPhail Gentleman ty pal. I think I’ll stick with resin for the time being and slog it out when doing a handful but I’ll definitely invest in a new light. Unfortunately superglue and I have a rocky relationship at the best of times lol.

Hi Gareth, Krystal, Krinkle or a good one is Mirror flash work really well as the lite-brite so you are right to give this a go..My good lady says that I spend too much time tying as well as talking to myself so I know what it's like... All the very best Davie

Davie McPhail thanks ! I am just hammering out a few spiders now, waiting for my peacock and orange mylar to turn up but Ive used some different holographic tinsels and will tie up the olive one aswell. Just used some krystal flash instead of tinsel on the spider body and looks great :).
