Tying The String Leech on a Norvise

Learn to tie the String Leech on a Norvise with Norm Norlander in this step-by-step demonstration video. This fly pattern is becoming quite popular, especially for the Steelhead Spey Rod enthusiasts. It casts well, can be tied rather large and has a lot of movement. The use of these "articulated" flies attached to the front of the hook (shank) is also becoming popular for a variety of other species in both fresh and saltwater. I haven't tied one of these yet, but have done similar. I'm guessing he removes the front hook because some places don't allow 2 hooks in a fly. With mine, I expect to keep both hooks unless there is a reason not to. I don't think it will foul much with the line in the rabbit strip. RIP Norm Norlander!

Mr. Norlander, I was with you right up until you removed "the rest of the hook so it wouldn't foul. Wasn't all of that tied to the hook? If you remove it won't the fly fall apart? I know I am misunderstanding. No-one would make so beautiful a leech pattern and cut the hook out rendering it spineless! Please explain. (I just bought your vise today and can't wait to get it.)
